There is in my mind such a beauty to the Jewish faith and while I am also happy for Madonna, I personally don't think you can take parts of it without altering the original concept of it. Laurent, I so appreciate when you explain things. It makes my day!! Joni in my opinion, has always had a very inquisitive mind concerning the ways of the Universe and has always looked for an explanation as to why people do and beleive the things they do. It comes out in her songs constantly. I love the way she becomes the character of Job in "Sire of Sorrow". She shows an understanding of what was going on with him and God at the time. Even if one doesn't believe, it is still a touching and in depth story. Those who dare riding a car know that somewhere along the way they'll get hit with stones thrown by religious kids, and this year a child who was riding a bycicle got beatten so badly he nearly died. Beaten ny whom? By those who after beating him rushed to pray for forgivness from what's his name. People who eat pork all year long, would curse a gay guy when spoted at the street, would treat women like dirt, would use their power as soldiers to abuse arabs, all those amazing folks do not eat on that day and are falsly singing their prayers - because they know that what's his name has promissed to forgive them. > This day is nothing less than THE national hypocracy day of Israel. But don't you worry - we've got lots of others too. > > Nuriel > I'm sorry to hear this but I don't think hypocrisy occurs only in Israel. One could write an encyclopedia about people, religious or not, of all creeds and all places who behave like this every day of the year. So don't throw the first stone! The question is: what are you doing to make the world a better place? Even if you begin with yourself 1 day a year that's a good start. PS: I think we should make it NJC from now on? Came home and went straight to ITunes store to purchase a few songs. He has a new album (exclusive to Apple) with a number of "talking" tracks. On one of them (How my Style Came to Me) he says that his style of singing was influenced by a number of female jazz singers - Lena Horne, Ella, Flora Purim and then later...Joni Mitchell. But of course! Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson is the guide for "Origins," and it's one of the best science series PBS, or anyone else, has presented this year. "Origins," premiering tonight at 8 with a two-hour block on WNET/Ch. 13 (another two hours concludes the series next Tuesday), is about nothing less than what "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" author Douglas Adams referred to as "Life, the Universe and Everything." It explores and explains why the Big Bang banged; why life developed on Earth and how the planet itself developed over eons; and what the central ingredients of all living things, including ourselves, really are. For that last mystery, it turns out that, 35 years ago in her song "Woodstock," Joni Mitchell answered it before the scientists did: "We are stardust." >> Read the full article at: http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/story/236348p-202943c.html take care everyone, Brian np: npr - talk of the nation ===== Don't it always seem to go That you don't know what you've got till it's gone --Roberta Joan Anderson, who never lies __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The shooting of a man (17 years old) not yet recognized with a gun took place last friday in a apartment of South Los Angeles (California). The man died at the hospital after he was transported to. It was "Celebrity Justice" TV program that revealed the word of the arrest. Chaka Khan, his mother has been divorced since several years from Damien Patrick Holland. Chaka Khan began her solo career in the late 1970s with the hit, "I'm Every Woman," a tune written especially for her by the legendary songwriting team of Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson. Since then, Chaka has recorded nine albums and been honored with five Grammy Awards. Her solo hits include "What Cha Gonna Do For Me?" "Clouds," "Papillion," "I Feel For You," and "Through the Fire." Working with the best of the best in the music world has been a rewarding experience for Chaka over the years. It all started when Stevie Wonder wrote "Tell Me Something Good." Since then, she has worked with some of the biggest and most outstanding music talents in the business - her dear friend Joni Mitchell, world-class producer Quincy Jones and R&B icon Gladys Knight, for example. http://noted.blogs.com/westcoastmusic/2004/09/damien_patrick_.html ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Sep 2004 02:04:08 -0400 From: ljirvin@jmdl.com Subject: Today's Library Links: September 29 On September 29 the following articles were published: 1998: "Joni Mitchell Still Untamed" - USA Today (Interview) http://www.jmdl.com/articles/view.cfm?id=396 1998: "Joni-on-the-Spot" - New York Daily News (Review - Concert) http://www.jmdl.com/articles/view.cfm?id=223 1998: "The cat's 'Meow-meow-meow!'" - USA Today (Interview) http://www.jmdl.com/articles/view.cfm?id=397 2001: "Joni From Both Sides Now" - Sydney Morning Herald (Opinion) http://www.jmdl.com/articles/view.cfm?id=679 ------------------------------ End of onlyJMDL Digest V2004 #278 ********************************* ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:onlyjoni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe ------- Siquomb, isn't she?
