Let's hope that the muse comes back, and Joni begins writing and recording again." Scott, I've got to say: what Joni said works for me. And it makes perfect sense. Just "guesses at most," but I think that few of us can begin to understand just how traumatic the relinquishment of Kilauren was for Joni. It rocked her world, and not in a good sense; she wrote and sang, I'm convinced, in order to survive, deal with the pain, and interpret the world so that *something* made sense. Now, thank heavens, she no longer feels compelled to cope with her life in that way. She didn't stop recording before giving us one of the most memorable catalogues compiled by any popular musical artist in the the past 50 years, and I thank her for that. So, if you're "retired," Joni--enjoy the ride. And paint up a storm!! From a grateful fan, Mary. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Sep 2004 17:19:40 EDT From: Monafitz@aol.com Subject: Chelsea Morning Hey All: Got my two copies of Joni's book, Chelsea Morning, and quickly sent one out to my niece Chelsea, who is now a junior in college. Funny how she called me to tell me that there was a typo in the book ... after all her Aunt Mona had not been playing and singing it THAT way to her all her childhood. I told her that I had no doubt that Joni liked ["reeling up" like Christmas bells] better than "ringing up" like Christmas bells at the time of printing. That Joni always has been and always will be a work in progress. Funny day, interesting how all that gentle and good spirited indoctrination over the years has came to the fore today on a technicality. She says she wants to learn to play guitar. Humm! What should I teacher her? Cheers, Mona. I doubt that Joni read the book and I haven't seen her comment on it. That said, Ms. O'Brien's did a fine job of cobbling together many interviews into a book form. Simon & I sent some recordings to her for inspiration along the way. Unless and until Joni writes her masterpiece, this might be the most thorough treatment. There are dozens of books about Bob Dylan so I think it's kinda good to support Karen's book. Last I checked, it was in the 2nd printing which is a nice sign that the book buying public "gets it". If you've read everything you could lay your hands on over the years, there's nothing "new". I enjoyed reading her managers' recollections on the early years though. It's certianly worth owning and it's nice to have the bibliography. Our own Les Irvin, Simon Montgomery, Jim Johanson, Bob Muller are in the Credits. I think Marian Russell is in there too for her Tunings contributions. Sincerely, Jim StDoherty@aol.com asked, > I just started Karen O'Brien's biography of Joni. That, in and of itself is reason enough to read it - whoo hoo! All kidding aside, I found it a very enjoyable read and would recommend it highly, as I do "Joni Mitchell, Elvis Costello & The Torch Song Tradition". Very intense reading. And speaking of Simon, congrats to him on the unveiling of his updated "Appearances" section of JoniMitchell.com. A great respource, and just interesting reading in and of itself. Bob NP: Steve Earle (w/Emmylou) "Comin' Around" (look for The Revolution Starts Now to show up on lots of 'best of' lists - it's pretty awesome. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Sep 2004 21:13:04 EDT From: AsharaJM@aol.com Subject: Joni DVD Mr. Covers wrote: <> Really, Wes should get all the accolades, as he put the DVD together and spent hours doing it, making the menu and duplicating them.
