The hard copy (real newspaper!) also has a colour pic of the cover of tBoS. Intresting, innit, how everyone corrects "Reoccuring" to "Recurring." The Chief Seattle thing? Well, they're just going by what Joni said, aren't they? Here yiz go: http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&call_pageid=971358637177&c=Article&cid=1094163010288 In Rotation Political protest seems to be the prerogative of an earlier generation, almost entirely missing, until recently, in the repertoire of new, independent singer-songwriters. Kris Kristofferson has just re-released two CDs, recorded in the 1980s, that are remarkably plainspoken rants against the kind of conservative American domestic and foreign policy that the Republicans celebrated in New York this week, the same week in which Canadian expatriate and former 1960s flower power poster child Joni Mitchell released The Beginning Of Survival (Universal Chronicles), a collection of pieces recorded from the 1980s through the oughts that she calls "commentaries on the world in which we live." The songs here - including "The Recurring Dream," "Dog Eat Dog," "The Beat Of Black Wings" and "Tax Free" - are a surprisingly effective indictment of the rampant self-interest fueling Bush's new America, a timely alarm. The package is enhanced by several of her recent paintings, an essay and native American leader Chief Seattle's powerful mid-1800s letter to the White House advocating respect for the environment and the lives of all creatures in the formulation of government policy. ===== Catherine Toronto - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We all live so close to that line, and so far from satisfaction ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 4 Sep 2004 09:29:02 -0700 From: "Mark or Travis" Subject: Re: Joni blurb in today's Toronto Star The package is enhanced by several of her > recent paintings, an essay and native American leader > Chief Seattle's powerful mid-1800s letter to the White > House advocating respect for the environment and the > lives of all creatures in the formulation of > government policy. Ok, I want to know. Does anyone else's copy of 'TBOS' have an essay in it? If mine does, I can't find it. Had the pleasure and the privilege of meeting a few JMDL listers last evening. Met Jerry and S.C. Bob, and Cindy, and Jerry's friend Deb at Skippers Smokehouse, a funky Tampa seafood place, last evening. Pretty soon Jim L. and Addie came. (Jim is Addie her correct name? I feel so bad not to exactly remember, but I'm thinking that's it) So It was great to meet these folks and while the conversation was all over the place topic-wise....I guess I shouldn't be too amazed the most animated and passionate parts of the convo were about...... ummmm...take a a guess. MS. JONI MITCHELL!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!! I saw a couple of folks from other tables even turn and look at us a little cuz the Joni talk was, as I said, kind of animated and it was passionate and fun. I was kinda ready to take it up another notch and do some moon-howling, but the rest of the group wanted to go to the Festival Express flick - which I want a report on, guys! and I felt I couldn't sit still..so I went on home and they went (presumably) to the flick. Anyway, just wanted to give a quick report. I feel like I have some nice new friends, and Jerry and Bob are like 2 new nice "bros." for me. Luv ya, guys. :) Em ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 04 Sep 2004 15:48:15 -0400 From: SCJoniGuy@aol.com Subject: Re: Joni blurb in today's Toronto Star Ok, I want to know. The essay is printed on the inside of the cardboard digi-pak. I didn't hear anything in the recordings that I hadn't heard before, but the paintings inside were really nice. Jerry told me I was NOT ALLOWED to comment on the painting on the cd itself, which reminds me of the crystal ball faces at Disney's HauntedMansion. So I won't.
