I was a bigger Tim Weisberg fan than I was a Fogelberg fan; 2. Netherlands was so damn good." As for the decline of Fogelberg and Weisberg, I think "The Innocent Age" (which opened with "Nexus") that followed "Twin Sons..." was probably not indicative of waning commercial success. It was both a big package (double record set) AND a big seller due to "Leader of the Band" and "Same Auld Lang Syne." I rather liked the orchestral arrangement and recording on "Ghosts" although the vocals were a bit over baked and the inevitable wear of the inner grooves of the vinyl pressing didn't do it any favors. Would that the less is more aesthetic of "Home Free" had been employed, the quality of his songwriting may have been more apparent. If you're in the mood, give "Hickory Grove" and "Wysteria" a spin. You'll be shocked at how satisfying and beautiful they remain. I never heard Fogelberg & Weisberg's sequel, "No Resemblance Whatsoever" from 1995. Interesting how nobody has ever mentioned how similar the cover photo from "Netherlands" (Fogelberg's 4th album) is to "Blue" (Mitchell's 4th album). Also, the paintings included within bear an interesting resemblence to Mitchell's marker and gouache works from the early 70s, like the LOTC cover. Clearly homage was intended.
