May I offer one correction? In this passage, "And impassive Norwegian blood and then I've got Native blood through the Norwegian blood, Sammy blood." ... the word transcribed as "Sammy" should be "Sami." This is the name, in their own language, of the nomadic people of the Scandinavian countries and northwestern Russia we used to call "Lapps" or "Laplanders." At least, that is the conclusion I draw from the word in context; I have no independent evidence to back it up. Tim Spong Dover, Del., U.S.A. I have a small (20") TV and I don't see any difference at all. It looks to me like the concert footage was captured on video, not film. On my set, it doesn't look like a faded film print. I don't have a high end DVD player (or an external decoder like Jerry Notaro) but I'm picky about sound. I'm very picky. I don't hear any difference at all between the Hong Kong DVD and the recently liscenced US version. What the new DVD has that the Hong Kong version lacks is a photo gallery by Joel Bernstein. I bought the new dvd and sold the old one but that's just me. I can't recommend replacing one with the other as a great value for your dollar. I just did it to keep my Joni Mitchell collection up to date. If you lack any of these: LoTC, FTR, Blue, C&S, THOSL, MoA, Hejira, DJRD, DED, or WTRF, I'd grow in that direction first. Now playing: "Comes Love", sung by Billie Holiday on Simon's compilation 'Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now CD" *Another View*' All the best, Jim From: "Justin Russ" >I was just wondering if there is any difference between the old Shadows and Light DVD and the re-released edition from last year? The word is "Sami", pronounced with an "a" like in "bar" and "i" like in "bee". Speaking of Sami culture, there is a great singer with a great voice you may wish to check out: Mari Boine. Only a few of her albums seem to be available in the US. I recommend trying out anything that is sung in her own language, not English, i.e. stuff like "Gula Gula". moni ------------------------------ End of onlyJMDL Digest V2004 #244 ********************************* ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:onlyjoni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe ------- Siquomb, isn't she?
