Are there any Americans going to the Jonifest next week who would be willing to buy a few sets of guitar strings for me, which I can pay you for at the fest? Here in the UK guitar strings are about double the price of strings in the U.S., and I seem to get through them faster than anyone I know (corrosive perspiration, I think). On gigs I am now typically using three guitars (in different tunings - I blame a certain Canadian songstress that we all love), and keeping them all restrung has become a serious financial commitment! Could anyone willing to help me out email me off list? Thanks. Martin. PS Apologies for the lack of NJC in the subject line, but I'm trying to cast as broad a net as possible. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 Aug 2004 08:04:05 -0700 (PDT) From: Em Subject: thank YOU all, and kd I am sooo very happy to have fallen (thanks to my friend Lori) into this wonderful lot. This "lot" being you all. Your passion for Joni has helped me access and fuel *new* passion in me. For Joni, who I didn't know too well before, and for music in general. I love that we can have the music til we EXPIRE, and don't have to give it up just cuz we are not quite young any more. (Maybe we're "almost young" in the Leonard Cohen sense?) I LOVE Joni Mitchell for not being a goody-goody - for not staying away from words ("win your medals fuck your strangers") because they are not USDA approved. Thank you Joni for being REAL enough to say fuck. And not to be (to use Bob's expression from a while back) "namby pamby". LOL!!!!!!!!! Joni is NEVER NAMBY PAMBY! right? So, on another note, that article about kd where she says Joni is her main influence. I appreciate kd's sentiment SOOOOO much, that I'm gonna go buy her 49th Parallel CD in a bit, when I make my Home Depot run. Anyway, thats all. I know this post is a bit sappy but I just wanted to express what I was feeling, and thats THANKFUL to have this deep. BLUE, turbulent, pool of Joni to dive into. Its truly a blessing in my 45th year on the planet. Lots of love, Em ===== - - - - - - - "Emancipate yourself from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds. And not to be (to use Bob's expression from a while back) "namby pamby". Thanks right back to Em...I've always said that new voices and perspectives are the lifeblood of this group, and you've given it a real push. And you're right about Joni...I don't always agree with Joni's choices, and I don't think they're always right, but they're always honest. Joni could probably have had a pretty good hit with WOHAM, but instead opted to keep it real for her and killed any airplay or success the song may have had as a single. Minnie Riperton recorded it as "lay with strangers" but didn't do much with it as a single either. The first "f*ck" I heard on a record was Steely Dan's "Show Biz Kids". OK, time to do my chores...it's a good day for me already, because I was able to score "Move On" Springsteen tix for Cleveland (for my friends) and Pearl Jam/Death Cab For Cutie tix for 10/6 in Asheville NC for me & my son. My name is Caio, from Brazil. I've got Carole Bayer Sager first album, on vinyl, and to be sincere, i've got two copies of the same one, just in case it gets scratched again (My first brazilian copy worn out, being already a badly manufactured record when i bought it...and after hearing it a lot for years, it just became useless...)or whatever...it's a great release and it has great songs...but it never became well known and also never reached the parade in Brazil, being only played on some special and tasty FMs (Eldorado, best one) we've got around here. My album it's an import, and although it has been as well released down here (the sound was fking lousy), the other ones were never released since it did not sell and did not reach the charts. Could you tell somethin' about her 2nd and 3rd albums and if they were released as a cd, wich are the songs and if, like the 1st one, has some special guests? Thanx a lot, in advance Caio nehring ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 Aug 2004 15:21:04 -0700 From: Randy Remote Subject: Re: thank YOU all, and kd SCJoniGuy@aol.com wrote: > > The first "f*ck" I heard on a record was Steely Dan's "Show Biz Kids". The story about how hard the South was on black and white couples "in those days" is contrasted with Joni's optimism about the present: "Don and me we look up the awning..."
