I realize its barely JC and may seem like a crackpot idea, but here it goes....Ive always thought that Joni had an influence on the "Johnny Bravo" episode. In an early scene in that show Greg was shown playing/singing in the boys room (with the groovy bunk beds). His "original" song, if I remember right, had lines about painted ponies on a merry-go-round........very Circle Gamish!!!! Does anyone remember that episode better than me and can prove or disprove my theory? Sometimes you can hear people laughing at the ends of tracks because they left the tape rolling and decided to leave that part in, because it's kind of cute. Tehre's a couple of tracks on Patty Griffin's "Thousands kisses" CD like that (but I can't think of which ones right now - sounds kind of odd the first time you hear it, but adds this home-recording, backporch kind of feel to the song and gives you a tiny glimpse of the real people recording the songs). I've never noticed any hiss/pop on the Joni thing, but then, I wouldn't, or my brain would just edit it out. It's entirely possible they just couldn't remove it. Or decided to leave it, because it's authentic. Or they were sloppy. Look at the typos and mistakes in some of the printed lyrics in some of the Joni lyrics in music books, that stay there even when reprints are done. People are lazy, and editing (of the copy-editing variety) is a boring job, where attention drifts far too easily and the same mistake is missed over and over again. (Now on coffee #4, or is it 5? Yoiks!) ===== Catherine Toronto - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We all live so close to that line, and so far from satisfaction ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Jun 2004 08:52:05 -0400 From: "Marianne Rizzo" Subject: joni 45's >Date: Fri, 18 Jun 2004 18:02:51 EDT >From: SCJoniGuy@aol.com >Subject: Re: Favorite Joni "B" side >**That brings up a good question. We were going to have lunch in Topanga Canyon, but then he mentioned a friend he'd like to see who has a business in the mall where the Daily Grill is located so we decided that would be a good choice and Joni-related, of course. We sat with our food, drinks and smokes in the hot sun having a lazy afternoon when my God, who should appear!! I have so much to tell, but it is a bit difficult as you can imagine! We left her alone but she has a new little yappy Jack Russell terrier dog she'd brought who was quite the center of attention. (Oh and yes, the cats are all getting along with Coco, and even though they have their skirmishes, she said they sleep together every night ;-) I was telling Stephen about a dog I had like that and Joni heard me and wanted to know about it so we had the opening for conversation. Well, lots of drinks and smokes later turned into our own chat with Joni for about an hour. Phenomenal, phenomenal. I'll give the short version for now with news of what matters probably to most of you. The "war:" has affected her very much and she has done three paintings since 9/11. The paintings are going to be featured in the L.A. Times next week. I don't want to share her views here yet because it seems more proper to see what is said in the L.A. Times. I will tell you that while talking with her about why she doesn't write anymore - she said she has not been able to - but this event is very definitely inspiring her to write again. I may have more to write later - right now I'm still in a little shock!! ;-) Kakki NP: For The Roses album - --- > I have also heard that she spends a lot of time painting. Yes, you could say that. Some are way over priced - IMHO, especiallly that certain least favorite album of mine. There are several of the 45's here for sale. But the cool thing for vinyl fans is there are some NEW copies here. Also even if you are not a vinyl fan - it may be cool to have the full sized covers of many of these - depending on their condition. One thing I found here was the "Grace of My Heart" soundtrack, with the Joni version of "Man From Mars." The seller claims it was the mistakenly released version - although it credits Kristen Vigard on the cover. Some of the 45's or 7inch releases, as they are referred to, are; Raised on Robbery, Come in From the Cold, Peoples Parties, Good Friends, Help Me, Shiny Toys, Chinese Cafe, Night Ride Home, Dry Cleaners From Des Moines and In France They Kiss On Main Street, among others. Also a "Free Man In Paris" demo was listed. So check it out - most are in the US or Canada - but several in the UK, Germany and Austria. As far as the sleeves go only a few mentioned that there were. http://www.alibris.com/home-music.cfm?S=R I have no experience with the site or any of the sellers - so buyer beware. However, as I said, my girlfriend uses this site to deal books - although it is secondary to her number one site which I am under no circumstances allowed to disclose - LOL! Bob answered: I myself have never owned a Joni 45; the only times I bought 45 was when there was a non-LP b-side, and even though Urge For Going satisfied that criteria I was not such a Joni completist at that time. But Joni did release a lot of singles - sadly there's not a good discography of her work anywhere that I've ever seen. But here are some of her 45's: You're So Square, Baby I Don't Care/Love Big Yellow Taxi/Woodstock (also released w/Carey as a B-side) Boho Dance/In France They Kiss On Main Street California/A Case of You Carey/This Flight Tonight Carey (live)/Jericho (live) Chelsea Morning/Both Sides Now Chelsea Morning/Fiddle And The Drum Chinese Cafe/Ladies Man Cold Blue Steel/Blonde In The Bleachers Court & Spark/Raised On Robbery Coyote/Blue Motel Room Dry Cleaner From Des Moines/same Free Man In Paris/People's Parties Good Friends/Smokin' Help Me/Free Man In Paris (also Just Like This Train as a b-side) Jericho/Dreamland Night In The City/I Had A King Shiny Toys/The Three Great Stimulants Underneath The Streetlights/Be Cool You Turn Me On, I'm A Radio/Urge For Going and you know there may be more - but this is enough to fill up the wurlitzer! Many of them did have some nice picture sleeves too. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Jun 2004 22:41:14 -0700 (PDT) From: Susan Guzzi Subject: Re: Did Joni influence the Brady Bunch?? OK Bill ... being the Joni Freak I am and a Brady Bunch afficionado - I will respond to your question. YES! YES ! YES! How obvious is it that Greg Brady ripped Joni off!? Hey Greg - if the suit fits - wear it! I remember that episode quite clearly and have had that thought cross my mind every time I see it. Another line from the song was "Clowns never laughed before" - well not until they heard this song. Also not sure about the exact line you mention being verbatem, but it does ring of Joni Brady's Circle-ish Game-ish writing. ;) Peace, Susan (also in Illinoize ... Chicago!) bill johnson wrote: I realize its barely JC and may seem like a crackpot idea, but here it goes....Ive always thought that Joni had an influence on the "Johnny Bravo" episode. Bill from IL, who wonders if Gamish is a word?? ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 20 Jun 2004 02:06:21 -0400 From: ljirvin@jmdl.com Subject: Today's Library Links: June 20 On June 20 the following article was published: 1998: "Back to the Garden" - Addicted To Noise website (News Item) http://www.jmdl.com/articles/view.cfm?id=24 ------------------------------ End of onlyJMDL Digest V2004 #173 ********************************* ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:onlyjoni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe ------- Siquomb, isn't she?
