Our man Mr Paz kindly despatched a VG8 with a Mexican Strat bought for me by my beloved for my forthcoming 50th birthday! (I can'y believe I'm so old). It doesn't sound like a Martin, my beautiful Takamine or of course, the Gorgeous Blonde. It sounds like a VG8 which is, of course, what it is. When I first got my hands on it (after initially blowing it up having forgotten the voltage US/UK difference in voltage and Mr Paz having programmed lots of tunes in it for me - but that's another story which was tragic but had a happy ending. But just how dumb can you get?)I tried to programme it to sound like an acoustic which was a bit daft. Now I accept it as a synthesiser and a different tool to work with we get on much better! But the BLISS of just shifting from Black Crow to Amelia to Hejira at a push of a button is just fab - particularly when you don't need washing lines for strings to hold that low Bb tuning for Black Crow is great. The good thing in the days of Joni playing in the late 60s or early 70s was the time it took her to retune. All those wonderful stories that she would tell during the ardous re-tune and before she had people to hand her guitars.......... I hear a strange through the window. Ah yes - Nostalgia is calling. Lots of love Anita PAZ YOU'RE THE MAN. It's dumb question time. If the VG8 has the tunings plugged into it, does it matter if the actual guitar is in tune to begin with? I'm guessing it does, since the tunings of the strings should be relative to one another and relative to some home tone of each individual string. (Just dreaming of the day when tuning of any kind might not be necessary...)
