I was at her house, with a number of other people, none of whom I knew. A party was going on, and Joni was happy, and talking to other people. I was so excited to be there, and I wanted to talk to her, but I didn't want to intrude. I went to a very large garage, and a security guard was sitting in a little rail car on some railroad tracks (this was a dream, after all). I went to him and asked if it was ok to talk to her, to approach her. He started to tell me that it was allright if I went about it correctly. Then Joni walked by and took me up to a room on the second floor where she was giving a concert. I was ecstatic. There were about 15 other people in this room, and here Joni had invited me to her private concert. She played her guitar, and sang, and then played another instrument that I had never seen. It looked kind of like an electric guitar, and she was using barre chords at the strings, but on the body of the guitar was a tape player that looked like an echo machine (like from the late 60's), and a box that she struck with her hand. I so much wanted to remember every song that she sang so I could write people at jmdl. I had my cd case with me, and wondered if I dare ask her to sign one. It was the case that I carry with me most of the time, and has about 18 of Joni's cd's in it now. I wondered about which one to pick. Joni came by to watch. I pulled out Clouds and she was very happy that I picked that one. She wrote a personalized message on it, and even made sure that she spelled my name right. I was so psyched, and I asked her if I could write to jmdl while I was there. She was happy that I wanted to, and told me I could. Then I woke up. So I decided to write anyway, even though I haven't read the digest for ages. I don't know what kind of controversies exist or threads that people are writing about. But that's ok, because I still consider you friends. I'm going through a very stressful time. I am about to take on my employer - the state of Colorado. I've filed several grievances, made a discrimination complaint with the state civil rights commission (jointly with the eeoc), and am about to file a notice of intent to sue. The lawyer who works for the union to which I belong has turned out to be a big disappointment, so I'm doing this pro se, for the time being. Joni has always been a guardian angel for me, ever since about 1968. What I mean is that I've found solace in her music at different times in my life. She speaks directly to me, on an emotional level, and her music is a safe place for my soul. And she let me come close to her, in my dream. So anyway, hello again. She said she didn't know why she'd done it because the song worked just as well if she merely stretched out the vowel sounds instead of adding the extra syllable. When she then sang it, the words jewels and schools sounded much more natural.
