One reason I came to the "list" was because Jim Jorgensson refuses to answer e-mails (which really pisses me off--or at least is quite frustrating to me). I discovered jonimitchell.com about 3.5 years ago when I typed into the web browser www.Jonimitchell.com just to see if anything would come up, and low and behold! Although, it took me a while to figure out what the cafe and list was about. Thanks for being here. Raveen is a hair processing product that African American women used to chemically straighten our hair. I've always been struck by the term, "Raveen curls" because as far as I always understood. The product only straightened the hair and did not curl it like many perm kits for non-African American hair. I've never used this particular product so I don't know for sure, but I do use a similar chemical straightener. The "curls" are something I have to do with a good old fashioned curling iron! Yeah, I'd forgotten that flavor. She's fretting about having too much choice while the waitresses and the guy pumping gas are just in the Zen moment. Talking or singing, just living in the moment, "unfettered and alive" as a great master once said. Those lines right there are so dense, I really believe she worked and worked them. Those lines were chiseled, then carved, then sculpted, then honed, then buffed, and then polished. They are air-tight. It reminds me of another set of descriptive lines in "Furry Sings The Blues" where the Old Daisy is staring at her stolen name and the pawn shops glitter like gold tooth caps. Is this woman a genius or what? The fact that she's also a dynamite player is just completely unfair. And producer. And... All the best, Jim >True, and what's significant about the line (and yet another example of Joni's brilliance as a writer is that it's NOT dollar signs in the eyes but rather CREDIT CARDS, meaning that they can't afford the chic and fancy stuff they want but rather have to put it on credit.
