It features various album covers designers have made for their favourite albums: "the greatest album covers that never were" http://www.theartrocks.com The artist Korstvedt made a Joni cover, also check out the cool Janis Joplin cover. Emiliano my jmdl & acousticharmonies list mate had an idea for us all to come up with a Joni Compilation CD (it could be a 2 cd set as well) of material from the live shows, alternate recordings, demos, radio broadcasts, etc. Put them all together in a package with artwork and then share it as a weed amongst ourselves. It would be great for everyone to add their two cents on this and I am calling on my SouthCarolinaian Joni Bro to help out on this(seeing how our Joni Expert and cover king) and would love to hear from Simon, Jim, and Les as well as Joni experts everywhere. I would like to make these the best audio files possible so it is important to identify the source of the recordings to try to get the best possible one. I do not at this time plan to remaster the recordings, but will normalize them so that the volume is equal on the all the tracks that we decide. I will not put a time limit on it for now so that we can have time to discuss the suggestions and get alot of input from everyone. Please post your suggestions of any recordings of Joni that you like alot that are NOT available commercially. Please post as much info about the track as you have (dates venue etc.). Also please use Joni Compilation (in your subject line) for all suggestions so that we can track things. Thanks alot. Damn, Chris...I'd love to do this, but two things stop me. (1) My copies of DJRD and Hejira are on vinyl, not CD. (2) All my albums are in the custody of Number Two Son, far and away in Maine. Had to turn the albums over to my boy when I moved into the RV...there wasn't enough storage space to carry several hundred albums around (but there IS enough space for several hundred CDs, LOL)! I haven't listened to either album since '98 or '99. Now, that said... I won't dispute your contention. Hejira got a LOT of airplay from me over the years (I love it!), and I recognized Joni was changing artistic direction when that album was released. DJRD confirmed my suspicions, and, as I said in another post (or was it in a note to Lori? Memory ain't what it used to be...), I'm not as musically "developed" as a lot of folks, i.e., I don't appreciate jazz, for the most part. The simple explanation (for me) is: DJRD never really grabbed me. Perhaps it's time to revisit the album. On that same note, I'm planning on replacing some of my Joni albums with CDs since subbing to the JMDL...but only the "mission essential" Joni due to financial re/constraints. Your idea is interesting...I wish I had the wherewithal to accomplish it! I was sent this.....may it be include in the digest? Gloriously cynical!!! Jingle Gates 'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, except Papa's mouse. The computer was humming, the icons were hopping, As Papa did last-minute Internet shopping. The stockings were hung by the modem with care In hope that St. Nicholas would bring new software. The children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of computer games danced in their heads. Dark Forces for Billy, and Doom II for Dan, And Carmen Sandiego for Pamela Ann. The letters to Santa had been sent out by Mom, To santaclaus@toyshop.northpole.com - Which has now been re-routed to Washington State Because Santa's workshop has been bought by Bill Gates. All the elves and reindeer have had to skedaddle To flashy new quarters in suburban Seattle. After centuries of a life that was simple and spare, St. Nicholas is suddenly a new billionaire, With a shiny red Porsche in the place of his sleigh, And a house on Lake Washington that's just down the way From where Bill has his mansion. The old fellow preens In black Gucci boots and red Calvin Klein jeans. The elves have stock options and desks with a view, Where they write computer code for Johnny and Sue. No more dolls or toy soldiers or little toy drums (ahem - pardon me) No more dolls or tin soldiers or little toy drums Will be under the tree, only compact disk ROMS With the Microsoft label. So spin up your drive, From now on Christmas runs only on Windows 95. More rapid than eagles the competitors came, And Bill whistled, and shouted, and called them by name. "Now, ADOBE! now, CLARIS! now, INTUIT! too, Now, APPLE! and NETSCAPE! you are all of you through, It is Microsoft's SANTA that the kids can't resist, It's the ultimate software with a traditional twist - Recommended by no less than the jolly old elf, And on the package, a picture of Santa himself. Get 'em young, keep 'em long, is Microsoft's scheme, And a merger with Santa is a merketer's dream. To the top of the NASDAQ! to the top of the Dow! Now dash away! dash away! dash away - wow!" And Mama in her 'kerchief and I in my cap, Had just settled down for a long winter's nap, When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, The whirr and the hum of our satellite platter, As it turned toward that new Christmas star in the sky, The SANTALITE owned by the Microsoft guy. As I sprang from my bed and was turning around, My computer turned on with a Jingle-Bells sound. And there on the screen was a smiling Bill Gates Next to jolly old Santa, two arm-in-arm mates. And I heard them exclaim in voice so bright, Have a MICROSOFT CHRISTMAS, and TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Dec 2003 23:33:43 -0700 From: Les Irvin Subject: Jonifest registration Joniphiles - There was a slight problem with the Jonifest registration page - it has now been fixed. Joni watched from a small balcony at the back of theater where all the seating has been reserved for VIP guests. After the opening set by Sheryl Crow she worked her way through the crowd on the floor (no mean feat) and disappeared backstage, presumably to visit with Bob. Before Bob took the stage she reappeared and found her way back to the VIP area. I think she may have been accompanied by Kilauren but it was hard to see the balcony celebs very well from my spot in the crowd near the front." - ---- For a comprehensive reference to Joni's appearances, consult Joni Mitchell ~ A Chronology of Appearances: http://www.jonimitchell.com/appearances.html ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Dec 2003 02:23:47 -0500 From: ljirvin@jmdl.com Subject: Today's Library Links: December 18 On December 18 the following article was published: 2001: "Kate Comes to Dinner" - New York Newsday (News Item) http://www.jmdl.com/articles/view.cfm?id=709 ------------------------------ End of onlyJMDL Digest V2003 #393 ********************************* ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:onlyjoni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe ------- Siquomb, isn't she?
