This discussion was prompted by the shock and disbelief of hearing that Britney Spears received one this past Monday! If you are interested in the posts check out the last couple njc digests on smoe.org and please contribute any ideas or thoughts) Mingus wrote: "I think Kakki and Coyote Rick should get in touch with Charles Valentino to spear head this star thing. He has connections to Angelica Houston and Roseanna Arquett and they all adore Joni" Coyote Rick would be a great person to be involved with this. I think he is involved with the Hollywood Historic Trust Assn., too. I'm not sure about contacting Joni's friends about it at this point. I would maybe pursue it in a more formal manner initally and see if she would even want it. Maybe through her management. Also, she or her management might want to pursue it in their own way, take the lead on it, or control how it is approached. Maybe our contribution is simply to put the idea upfront on their plate. But if anyone here has Joni's ear, please pass the thought along! CC wrote: "Seriously, though do we really think she'd dig it? Maybe a sustaining music/painting scholarship in her name across the street at UCLA would be a greater honour." I think we should work on that, too! ;-) Although I think something in her name at UCLA might have to come out of her own pocket. Don't know if she would dig a star. But when you look at the list of other music luminaries on the walk it really seems like a terrible gaping void that she is not there, too. If I were her, I may feel mixed about the whole thing, but I would also feel a little pissed that I'm not there, too. Stephen wrote: "Joni certainly seemed thrilled to have received a star on Canada's walk of fame the day before the Toronto tribute. I think this is a good idea to pursue" Which gives me hope that she wouldn't think it completely wacky to have one in L.A. "She certainly contributes to the local economy- shopping and dining in Brentwood ;-)" And now we know which group of businesses to hit up first for the donations, hee hee!
