It really is a shock at 1st to listen to (yes I know I am 20 odd years late!!!)......but with head phones on..... it grows on to one..there are so many clever bits......it did seem disjointed at the first listening....but actually its pretty clever as it forces you to stop and think what is going on!! It seems to have a sudden end.....and I thought..."is there not more?"........that I was made to put it back on! I am sure Lord of the Rings the complete video/DVD will have this effect......"oh its the End?.....I had better watch it again!" Cindy due to the worm virus..all my email address's have been wiped out (I had to do a reinstall on this computer!)..so I do not have your email address to thank you off site. So again thank you for being soooo generous, I really appreciate it!! Again Joni surprises and overwhelms me with her talent!! Ash. Hope the LA fires are not near you! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Oct 2003 03:22:23 -0600 From: David Sadowski Subject: New Lyric Here's a new lyric... try to imagine this performed by The Band, sung by Richard Manuel. Hiding In Plain Sight It's two steps forward, one step back At the church down by the railroad track Did you ever feel your whole life's Been under attack Here and there, all down the line Everybody's lookin' for a sign When your ducks are in a row That's when you will know Don't need to be in the dark To see the light What you're looking for Find it you just might Right out in the open Hiding in plain sight What a man believes belongs to him Tell that to Sally, tell it to Jim But as sure as there are stars above There must be love When you're up at the microphone The room is full, but you're still alone Everybody closes in to listen To hear what they've been missin' Don't need to be in the dark To see the light What you're looking for Find it you just might Right out in the open Hiding in plain sight Sometimes life gets you Right between the eyes Hard to tell what's true Or which is lies Don't be sad and don't you cry When it's time to say goodbye All good things come to an end Just so they can begin again Don't need to be in the dark To see the light What you're looking for Find it you just might Right out in the open Hiding in plain sight ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Oct 2003 06:50:41 -0600 From: "mack watson-bush" Subject: Re: urge for going patrick wrote: i've always felt that a particular aspect of the > connection between joni and her gay fans was This post really has nothing to do with Patrick' post. I am so very weary of being classified, categorized, and referred to as a gay man. I am homosexual, true, but that isn't who I am. Only a very, very small part of me. I am a human being that happens to like Joni Mitchell and scads of others. If homosexuals continue to refer to themselves as an exclusive group, then we can not expect the world at large to stop doing the same thing. Joni has fans, straight, gay, sideways, upwards, green, blue, yesterday and tomorrow. I am just a fan and just a man, no more and no less and my sexual proclivities do not define me. Just my opinion of a burr under my saddle. mack ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Oct 2003 08:24:47 EST From: Bobsart48@aol.com Subject: Re: Critical Superlatives Keith wrote: While I may have said this in my first email (this being my second and I will learn the list's requirements fully when I come up from paper grading trench), if Joni had been a classical musician, she would have been a Mahler or Beethoven. If these two greats underwent a musical apotheosis, they would be, if lucky, Joni Mitchell. Keith, it took me over 30 years to build toward such a bold view of Joni's work, despite my unmasked adoration of it during that period. That it keeps becoming more wondrous to me with every listen convinces me that you and I are not mad - although I doubt that those other two were very good singers or lyricists. (I imagine they could play an instrument or two, and composing for an entire orchestra must have been rather time consuming, I imagine ;-) ) I love it when the occasional critic comes out and says something close to that, too. This year's Wall to Wall Joni tribute afforded Symphony Space the opportunity to make a similar statement, by honoring her in a way that included some of the great classical and jazz composers. What I wanted to convey is that Joni is first in her order just as Mahler and Beethoven are first in their order--equally enjoyable when they need to be. Someone said to Paul Simon once, "Your music is poetry." His response went something like, "No, I am a songwriter. If you want poetry, read Wallace Stevens." As fine and enobling a self-understanding as a person could/should want. Yesterday, on my forty-mile drive home from work, I put in Joni's first album. Today, reading the list, I saw a reference to one of my top four or five songs by JM: "Marcie" (from the first album). Could there be a more haunting, lovely expression of sorrow? (well, maybe the Adagietto from Mahler's 5th Symphony : >) --the "imp of the perverse"! Let's face it, though, the only thing better than a JM song is another JM song. "Oh, brave new world that hath such people in it." You make feel like dancing, even though my feet are "covered with keloids from the slings and arrows of outrageous romance." Love to y'all--from Bowling Green, Kentucky. Keith ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Oct 2003 09:57:19 EST From: MINGSDANCE@aol.com Subject: RE; saskatoon in oct. I Smuggled something home from there. I picked fresh sage from the Buffalo Ponds and fresh wheat grass that I hid in my luggage and somehow made it through customs( most people smuggle drugs) but me and my Wicca Ways:~) . I use the sage for smudging and consider that it is from Joni's homeland and that the Wanuskewin had 9,000 years of tribal history that the sage would be good medicine. I have some neat photos of the Indian dancing with his feather head dress. I wondered how much time Joni spent out there. We also did the Broadway Bridge and several places Joni frequents Thanks for stirring old memories. I guess she married him and came to terms with that in her own way. I don't know that I could ever look at it as anything but being his second choice.< ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Oct 2003 18:46:46 -0000 From: "amelio747" Subject: Re: TLOG Well I still think it's great so there! :) No really I love it, but yeah one disc would have done.
