I agree that when joni gets drowned out by backgroud, much is lost, still this particular song, was perfected more times than once for me. Oh and hey, has anyone ever heard the soulful(lmao) tune "drop kick me Jesus through the goal posts of life" ? if you haven't yet, i suggest that you do> iwish i could tell you who it belongs to, but i was laughing so hard every time i heard it that i lost my concentration. peace Noel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Sep 2003 10:36:07 -0500 From: "Donna Binkley" Subject: Re: LOL! It sounds terrific, any copies avalable please? I have just received this evening the "Lets Sing Out" video from John van Tiel( thanks so much John) and it is terrific. It's interesting to see how Joni changes on these shows both physically and vocally. Fascinating and spellbinding footage here. Thank you to all responsible for making it available to us. Yes, this CD is so incredibly sweet! 'Blue' is definitely a gem. And just when I had grown tired of 'Both Sides Now' along comes a singer named Terry Gonga who brought the song back to life for me! One of the best covers I've ever heard! I just finished watching the 'Let's Sing Out' video. What a treasure! Joni is so young and beautiful.. and her facial expressions while singing are still the same ones that she uses today. I guess I don't know what I'm saying here, except that she is still the same beautiful person now that she was back then. There was another group on the video who performed 'Get Together.' I really liked their rendition, and it somehow reminded me of Joni's 'This Flight Tonight.' Instead of singing "try to love one another, right now," they sang "try to love one another, yeah, yeah," which immediately made me think of Joni's line "you got the loving that I like, all right." Something about the "yeah yeah's" and the "all rights" seemed so similar to each other. Combined with the fast strumming also made 'This Flight Tonight' come to my mind. Is my mind going? Or is it just late? Thanks to Bob for the CD's and video.... and to Simon, and everyone else who may have been behind the scenes on these projects. When asked his name he said they nicknamed him "Hejira," then explained it was Mohammed's fight from Mecca. It was a Sodenburg movie, so do you think he's been listening to Joni? It came out in 1998, called "Out of Sight." Just ignore if this has already been discussed. Also here in Fort Myers, FL. Joni got mentioned by Ben Ridder "Knight Ridder News Service" The story is titled "If you insist on compiling a list, try to get it right" It's talking of the Blender and RS list he say's: "The inclusion of Joan Jett and Joni Mitchell--but not, bizarrely Bonnie Raitt--smacks of tokenism." I hope everyone is safe from the big storm on the way! But I think it's moreso the fact that "Amelia" is one of her personal faves, rather than the line being offensive in and of itself, that would lead me to think otherwise.... On the other hand, if we get too nitpicky with our wordings, we're liable to screw up what has become one of the most creative moments in our mutual discussion list experience... Not Sure, Mark. At the end of one verse, instead of 'it was just a false alarm' I wrote 'it was just another pregnancy test gone awry'. Does anyone else think this line might be offensive to Joni? Aside from 'Little Green', wasn't there some information about Joni having a miscarriage when she was married to Larry Klein? What does anyone else think?
