Every other recording I had was chopped off... This is one of the most exciting finds we've made in a long time...BIG thanks to Doug in Canada for sharing this material with me, and HUGE thanks to Ashara for making oodles of copies in a matter of days so we could get them out to Jonifest attendees. I'd like to also make this material available to all US fans at this point, but first let me describe what all is here: The video and audio CD run about 30 minutes. It features Joni's performances on 2 episodes of a CBC show titled "Let's Sing Out" hosted by Oscar Brand. The first comes from Winnipeg Manitoba on Oct. 4, 1965. Joni is introduced as "Joni Anderson", which in itself blows my mind. You can do the math, she's only 22 at this point. She performs: - -Born To Take The Highway - -Blow Away The Morning Dew (a duet with Brand) - -Favorite Colour (a brand new "unreleased" song!) - -Me And My Uncle John (solo performance of a John Phillips song) The second segment is from Sudbury, Ontario and is dated October 24, 1966. Joni has quite a different look here; she's now "Joni Mitchell" and she is so beautiful (both here and in the earlier segment) it's almost beyond belief. Anyway, during this segment she plays & sings: - -Just Like Me - -Urge For Going - -Night In The City - -Blue On Blue - -Prithee, Pretty Maiden (a Gilbert & Sullivan piece in which she duets again with Brand, who seems more than just a little taken with her...this performance is guaranteed to raise a BIG smile, Joni is just adorable with those doe-eyes of hers) Anyway, I'll say it again...thanks SO MUCH to Doug in Cananda for snagging this stuff, it's my pleasure to help spread it around. If you want the video & CD, here's what to do: Send me a blank video & cd, along with return postage back to you. Include $6 which is what I have to pay the company that dupes the video for me. Or, if all that is more hassle than you want, just send me $15 to cover the cost of the blank, the dubbing, packaging, printing, and postage. I do have a Paypal account at this address (SCJoniguy@aol.com) so you can just point & click and it's a done deal. (Any monies over & above my costs will be forwarded to the Jonifest scholarship fund, so if you want to make a donation over and above the $15 you can help a fellow JMDL'er make it to Jonifest 2004). If you want to sweeten your deal, I made another "Sweet 16" for this year's fest which includes 16 of my favorite Joni covers. Tracks are: 1. Judd Grossman b Carey 2. Pam Bricker b Goodbye Pork Pie Hat 3. Melissa Errico b Night Ride Home 4. Sara Hickman b Chelsea Morning 5. Blue Tapestry b In France They Kiss On Main Street 6. Terry Gonda b Both Sides Now 7. Diana Krall b A Case Of You 8. Erinn Brown b Urge For Going 9. Beth Nielsen Chapman b You Turn Me On Ibm A Radio 10. Avalon Motel b Blue 11. Jonathan Cohen b Woodstock (with Christine Sullivan) 12. Itxaso & Daniel Perez b Cherokee Louise 13. Lorna Grant b Big Yellow Taxi 14. Renata Friedrich b Moon At The Window 15. A Bird That Whistles b Hejira 16. Lydia van Dam - Love If you would also like a copy of this cd, just add $1 to the amount, or send 2 blank cd's instead of one. If you have any questions, please let me know. John Van Tiel will handle European distribution, hopefully I'm not jumping the gun here with that. Thanks to Doug for a really rare and amazing find! Sorry I assumed this was material Simon probably pulled out of his vault. What struck me was the maturity of Joni's voice at a relatively young age. My VCR is broken but I will view the video elsewhere this weekend and can't wait. Thanks for sharing and spreading the Joni. What struck me was the maturity of Joni's voice at a relatively young age. These 2 appearances are not as yet listed at JoniMitchell.com, so I don't if Simon knew of them previously or not. He's very busy and doesn't always have time to do all the updates that he takes care of. I have sent him a copy of the cd though so hopefully he's enjoying that. I agree with you about Joni's maturity...I think especially the video shows how assured she was at this age. Her performances are very confident and full of life. Others watching it at the Full Moon thought that Joni looked scared in 1965 and more sure of herself in 1966. Anyway, you can watch it and see for yourself...either way it's AMAZING footage, and excellent quality too! Interesting sidenote...also in the video (briefly) are a young Harry Chapin (as part of The Chapins), Dave van Ronk, and Arlo Guthrie.
