If you're gonna pimp a cause, you're supposed to do some persuasive writing. Let me help you out. - ------------ Having just a few people control the Press was a very dangerous thing in a democracy. We need many sources of information, not just Time/Warner, Thompson/RCA/NBC and Disney/ABC. Enough about news. Let's talk about the stranglehold corporations have on radio in the USA. The biggest one is "Clear Channel" but "Emmis" is dangerous too. They have bought up dozens of stations. This has snuffed out many of the small commercial stations that popularized new forms in pop like the rock era and the singer-songwriter era. I'm not a big fan of "country" music but it's the same over there. They play CTV artists and that's it. Play lists are tighter than US Embassy security on July 4th. Having a small number of owners is bad for singer-songwriters and it's bad for Culture. Let's decentralize radio and TV ownership again. Are you in? I recently acquired a Yamaha keyboard and am looking around for piano sheet music. I never had a piano growing up but always wanted one. So I am pretty much a beginner. I read music and I know where the notes are on the keyboard but never having been able to practice regularly, I struggle getting through very simple stuff. Does this book have haflway decent arrangements that you don't have to be Roberto Holliston to be able to struggle through? Mark E. in Seattle >> Mark; I have the Anthology songbook and I'm a beginner on piano also (started lessons at age 58) but I've learned one important thing from my teacher: you don't always have to play it the way it's written. You can change it (eliminate some of the difficult little floroushes and extra notes) so that it's easier for you to play and few people will know the difference. If you really want to play it as it's written, note for note, then I couldn't tell you if the music in this book is easy or hard... you'll just have to try it and see what happens. I've also found that many Joni songs are not very fulfilling to play on piano unless you're a good singer, since many piano parts are not that interesting compared to the vocals. In other words, if you just play the piano parts to a s9ong, you might jot even know which song it is unless someone is singing the vocals which contain the real style of the song. A few, like "Both Sides Now" are fairly easy to play and the piano alone sounds good even if no one is singing along.
