Somehow I was stuck on the bubble-bath image (instead of the dust) and I couldn't reconcile the white/wet/airy with the dark/dry/dusty. Now I can listen to this song without a nagging doubt. Thanks! Andrea, Me too, I relate to this song for many reasons, including the fact that as a young boy, I loved to hang out under the overpasses on the expressway near our home. The bridge in this case wasn't over water, but over lanes of streaming cars. Since the expressway was dug down into the ground, there was always a narrow crawl space near the top of the slope where it tapers to meet the overpass bridge, creating a narrow, cozy (but dirty) concrete space to hang out in, smoke cigarettes, watch the traffic, etc.. A yearning for a secret place.... And we also flattened our silver and copper coins on the railroad tracks! As Marianne and I got closer to the Full Moon I took over the driving. She really really wanted to get to the barn at five as Ashara had requested. (get me to the" barn" on time) I didn't think we would make it because we had gotten a much later start Friday morning than anticipated. So traveling traveling those winding roads I really stepped on it. I'll cut to the chase...we did make it.. we pulled into the Full Moon at 5P on the nose. Marianne reaches over and starts blowing the horn to my chagrin. Since we did not have time to freshen up I still wanted to comb my hair and put a little lipstick on it. I started yelling "Wait!!" " Wait....I want to comb my hair...WAIT....I NEED TO PUT SOME LIPSTICK ON!!!!!!!" Then she screamed ..".Look....it's susan....Guzzi!!!!!! SUSAN! SUSAN!!!!!" I turned and looked ...susan running towards the truck..out of the truck goes Marianne. Hell..I thought..if you can't beat 'em join them and I did. The three of us embraced....although Marianne and I had numerous three-ways with Guz this is the first time I saw her in the flesh. (three -way phone calls :-) ) Susan..thank you again..I think Marianne and I both at that point knew we were at the right place. Guz led us to the barn ..although I might have looked calm and collective I was anything but! I started looking around and seeing these FACES...faces I knew...people I have laughed my ass off at ..their quips....one -liners. The Jmdlers that I have disagreed politically...Lori Fye was to my left. At this point I had to zone out a little because it was still very overwhelming for me. THE HIGHLIGHTS (some ) and THANK YOUS... in no particular order: Ashara..Mags..Maggie..for your tireless efforts. What a great job you did!! I know there are other people too who worked hard putting it together. I'm sorry.. I don't know your names...but a big thanks ,..too! The gifts in the welcome packet...BOB..ANITA..ASHARA...thanks so much!! I did not even know the Toronto Homage was included until I got back to Marianne's. We were going through the stuff and realized I had the homage to Joni. Marianne and I beat it upstairs and stuck it in the player. WOW....this was so great!! Chuck E's dulcimer workshop.. an erudite man with a big heart. (because of this ..I'm going to try my hand at playing the dulcimer) And thank you Chuck for Rainy Night House...it was beautiful!! Roberto's show tunes workshop.....watching this grand master lead was a thrill!! From this came another highlight....Victor and Yael doing a tune from Phantom of the Opera. I'm so sorry this was not caught on video....it was goose bump city. And to my Morningstar Lodge neighbors...Chuck and Barbara....Mingus and Rolls...Martin..Chris..Stryngs..Jimmy and Ed..Jack. Could I have asked for better neighbors? NO!!! You guys were a big part of the paradise. Mingus!! I connected with lovely man in the barn the first day while looking at raffle items. Not realizing he would be my neighbor too. He had Joni's complete catalog with him and let me borrow HOSL. But... Mingus inviting me to his room and sharing his Joni stories while looking at HIS photographs are truly beyond words. He took me to an almost spiritual realm sharing his Goddess. My only regret is that we didn't have longer and Marianne wasn't there with me to share this. I've tried to share with her this experience...but words just fail to capture my time with him. Stay well Mingus and thank you again so much!! Jerry singing Judy for me out on the porch. What a sweet soothing voice he has!! I was trying to think of the Judy Collins song that was in Walk on The Moon. Little did I know that not only did he know Judy stuff but the voice to sing it !! Please think about performing next year!! In some strange web page (Calico Web / Mosaic Philosophy: I'll return to it, for sure!) I found this "free" transcription: "Don't interrupt the sorrow. Darn right. In flames, Our prophet witches Flee the light. A room full of glasses... He says, "You're not just liberation, doll." ...That's free, don't you? (BTW; browsing this page I almost cried finding Melanie's Leftover Wine... I've never read its lyrics before) Well, he's talking to a doll who makes her liberation (or her time's lib) like little victories (as someone would put little heads of enemies hanging on her/his belt)? Could anyone tell me the aproximately dates when you've discussed this matter, so I can find it on archives? Maybe you, Bob, as you seem very touched by it? :-) Regarding duality (one of this awfully good and mysterious song's themes), let me post the following lines: they're featured in "Jerry Springer: The Opera" (the megasuccess of this season in London) and they've written by William Blake in The Marriage Of Heaven And Hell: "Energy is pure delight nothing is wrong and nothing is wright and everything that lives is holy" ...................... adding it "and in conclusion, fuck you!" Instead, she spends the day watching news reports of the event on TV in a New York hotel room. Although explanations vary, it's generally thought that Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young advised her not to go so that "someone will be on the show" in case they do not return in time. Although just four months after the event, Joni introduced the song Woodstock this way: "Everybody knows about Woodstock. I started off to go there... I was playing in Chicago and I was with my manager and another group. We had just finished playing in Chicago and they were on their way to the festival and I was on my way with them except that I had to do a television show the following Monday. So, Sunday afternoon we arrived at the New York airport and there were all sorts of hassles with helicopters and transportation into the festival so I got abandoned there. I got left behind and I felt really terrible. I went back into New York City and turned on my television in my hotel room and watched the little bits of it that they put on the news and felt sorry for myself... and then when I saw the magazine articles and pictures of it and everything I really, really felt sorry for myself because it'll never happen again of course" 1974: Joni performs at the Universal Amphitheater in Universal City, California. The recordings from these five dates ended up as the material for the Miles Of Aisles album, released 3 months later. 1979: Joni perfromed at Alpine Valley in East Troy, Wisconsin.
