I must say I don't agree with you! The "somewhat sincere" assertion just fits with its song's context; when she sings: "Like the church Like a cop Like a mother You want me to be truthful" Well, that's what I call it ingenue of him, don't you think? Are the church, a cop or a mother truthful? Anybody well informed would tell us that isn't so. Joni (at least in this song) is really "disenchanted": could anybody be absolutely sincere? Plus: we do need absolutley sincere people? (this 2nd question is somewhat uneasy, I guess). I think this "somewhat sincere" assertion as one example of many Joni's unequalled fineness and subtleties: She asks for somebody she can rely, who can be trusted yes, but not till the point that he's always saying the Truth (one thing that don't exists one and only); nor she's hoping that he *always* speak exactly according to his thoughts. I did think of this wonderful written song at the "For Free --> Joni as an hypocrite" thread: I keep thinking everybody is "somewhat" hypocrite or at least ironical (not cynical, though): keep apart from me anybody who claims to be "totally sincere", please! Let Freedom, Love & Beauty rule our world! This year's Jonifest, as always, was THE best ever! (HOW can it keep getting better and better and better every year?) It started with some not good news.......Les Irvin had his car broken into Wednesday morning, and all his stuff (and I mean *all*- laptop, phone, clothes, DAT recorder, tapes, etc.) *except* his mandolin was taken. He sent an e-mail to me saying he wasn't even sure if he would make it. Another e-mail arrived once we arrived at Full Moon said that Barbara Little had broken her back a few days earlier, but still wanted to join us! Both arrived safe and sound, and the weekend began. Highlights for me, (and these are only the very tip of the iceberg, as a *real* highlights post would take several days for me to write) are: .....the OPENING CEREMONY!! .....watching Anita and Steph open Joni's guitar they bought on e-bay, (and trusted me to take delivery and bring to fest.) I honestly can't think of 2 nicer people to have this guitar and I know they will value it greatly. .....the power going out on Thursday night. To attest to the generosity of this group, it did not deter the spirit of the evening one bit, and if anything, brought us all closer together in the dark. (No comments on that one, Smurf!) .....watching Rachel, on her 14th birthday, on stage singing and playing her violin with Stryngs. Even though I had only known her a few days, I was beaming like a proud mother from my seat. .....how much fun the Sugarpants performance was to participate in, and how *difficult to do it with a straight face! (Of course, I had duc tape on my mouth at the time, so it wasn't *that* hard!) (Jimmy, you missed THE best performance of the weekend, right girls??) .....crying my eyes out at "Frank's Song" by Stryngs. (I've heard it so many times, but it gets to me every time. .....looking over at Barbara, who, even though she was there with a broken back, had a HUGE smile *every* time I looked at her! .....all the musical collaborations. It is always amazing to me the amount of talent in this group. It always just blows me away. .....seeing "Joni rocks" springing up all over the place, magically. These were decoupage Joni pictures and sayings on actual rocks, and they literally just "appeared" out of thin air. It was SO incredibly magical and beautiful!! Every time I turned around, there was another in a different building, a different place, and I never saw anyone put it there! .....hearing the thoughts of listers that were not there in person read out loud by Mags. It truly brought all of you into the room with us, sharing the experience in spirit. Thank you to those who sent in thoughts. .....most of all, the joy of being around so many generous, beautiful, loving friends. I was presented with a beautiful handmade book (by Claud) that everyone had their baby pictures in, and wrote such wonderful things to me. I even received a framed Proclamation saying that August 10, 2003 was officially "Ashara Stansfield Day" and everyone was to celebrate it with hugs!!! (Of course, Patrick had to remind me at 1 AM that day that it was no longer Ashara Stansfield Day, and not only was I no longer special, but I should now bow down to him.) LOL!! Too tired to think of all the many, many other special moments, but I trust that my fellow Festers will regale you with tons of stories, gossip, reviews and general info about the fest. For those of you that were wondering about next year, many volunteers have come forward to put on the fest, and all I will have to do is the overall picture. So.........many thanks to all who helped make the fest happen this year and to all that have come forward to make it continue to happen. I really can't imagine this *not* happening for many, many years to come! I feel like I have been hit by a large truck. Jack was my beautiful sweet beeatch that sacrificed his last evening there to get some sleep so he could drive me to the airport. We pulled out at 3am and we laughed and cried all the way to the airport telling stories about the fest. I am glad we decided to leave a little earlier (thanks Peter) cause I only sat waiting for 10 minutes before the plane started boarding. It was very hard to leave so early and not get to finish out the last night of late night partying. I trust that the rest of you who could, did, and did it well! My love to you all and many thanks to all of you for such special moments. I will try to post a report over the weekend "When I Come Back Down" and catch up with dead brain and body. Peace Michael P.S. Andrea, sorry you could not make it this year! Trust me honey I was a little freaked out about going to my first one and I questioned Ashara'a sanity for opening her home to a bunch of strangers (a lot of whom are quite strange to boot), but I settled right in within seconds of being there. Now it is just so natural, it's like going home. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Aug 2003 23:10:13 -0400 (EDT) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Jonifest Just got back about an hour ago from Jonifest 03. I have a guitar student who needed a left handed guitar, something expensive in regular stores. She got a really nice Fender lefty guitar online for a very reasonable price. The shipping and handling was free, and best of all, no taxes!!! I play a 12 string Ovation and love the sound. Mine isn't electric though. Anyway, I just looked online out of curiosity and saw this Ovation 12 string, electric for $580: Ovation CS245 Celebrity Deluxe 12-String Acoustic Electric Guitar (Natural) - S There are lots of good sites to check out online.
