My daughter and I gazed at her from the balcony of Convention Hall in Asbury Park. They just recently opened up a bar and grill. She was so, so beautiful as she reflected off the Atlantic Ocean. It made me think of Joni's poetry...And the moon swept down black water Like an empty spotlight. BTW Happy belated birthday, sounds to me like you had a good one. rosie in nj In the morning there are lovers in the street They look so high You brush against a stranger And you both apologize ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Jul 2003 12:46:55 -0700 From: "kakki" Subject: Re: Is Joni a snob? Too funny! I agree with everything Kate, Phyliss and Paz have said. L.A. is a lot of things but it is virtually snob-free (but not smog-free). Too diverse, too sunny, too many people and cars which I think actually promotes a pretty friendly and egalitarian culture. I'm wondering who the article's author thinks are the "elite" and the "common masses." We are just one big melting mass here ;-) The celeb "elite" are usually always friendly here and they like to be recognized/noticed - (that's why a lot of them are in the entertainment biz to begin with). Joni would be bored silly hanging with snobs anyway! The plan is to go to my friends house 20 minutes from JFK and hop a sailboat for an afternoon and evening cruise. It sounds like it is gonna be wonderful. Friday of course we head to the mountains for the Sex Therapy and yoga courses at the Full Moon resort. Best, Paz >> Cool! (In more ways than one.) I'll drink to that. I also have a similar tradition I've started, quite unplanned, whereby I observe a minute of silence and have a Cognac in honor of special people in my life when they pass on; your ritual is a lot more festive, to be sure. Do you mean you'll be looking down upon Long Island from a plane, on your way to the JoniFest? Or from a boat? Having lived in the NYC 'burbs all my life, I feel great pride whenever I'm returning from a trip (especially in a plane) and I see the city and all the "visitors" on the plane peer out the windows in awe. I'm tempted to get up and say, "Hey, that's my home town... let me tell you what all those buildings and bridges and landmarks are." I feel like taking them all to my favorite restaurants in Chinatown or Little Italy or The Village and showing them around. Too bad it didn't end with track 6, eh? Then you could say the end of your perfect day was when the moon swept down black water like an empty..... spotlight. Right? It sounds like a great day and a fine post as well. Lama Kenny B said, >>>>> We had a fairly large group of people over for my birthday party Saturday evening. It was about midnight and I was in the mood for some Joni. I really wanted to hear "Ludwig's Tune" so I put For The Roses in the CD changer and pressed "play", After the last tune ended, I watched the clouds roll by a nearly full moon and felt it had been the perfect ending to a perfect day as I brought the speakers inside and headed for the bed.
