If it's an overstock or remainder it's probably an old version that doesn't have Joel Bernstein's photo gallery. This year's edition has a purple cover. Wayner Shorter won in six (!) categories: Jazz Artist of the Year, Album of the Year (Footprints Live!; his Alegria was 4th), Acoustic Jazz Group (Wayne Shorter Quartet), Soprano Saxophone, Composer of the Year and election to the Hall of Fame. The Quartet, which also created the two cited records, contains none other than Brian Blade on drums. Blade got fourth in drums and also third in the "rising star" category for drums (which is actually a bit unusual to be on both drummer lists). No mentions for Joni. Cassandra Wilson got the top female vocalist spot. Have a nice weekend, Eric ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Jul 2003 00:09:51 EDT From: PassScribe@aol.com Subject: A little Joni in the night We had a fairly large group of people over for my birthday party Saturday evening. On Long Island, the day started off beautifully; by 4 o'clock, the wind kicked up and showers threatened. By 4:30 though, the sun came back out (a few clouds rolling by) and the temperature was about 80 with no humidity and a slight breeze. Our yard has several large trees so the shade, coupled with eveything else made it a perfect evening, weather-wise. Lots of friends & family showed up, the food my wife prepared was great and it was a fine gathering, overall. Most folks left by 10 PM; a few close friends stayed 'til 11. I had run speakers out to the yard from the stereo and put on a good mix of music (a little Joni here & there) using the 6-CD changer on random, but by the time everyone had left and my family had gone up to bed, I just didn't want to go inside or to sleep just yet. It was about midnight and I was in the mood for some Joni. I really wanted to hear "Ludwig's Tune" so I put For The Roses in the CD changer and pressed "play", taking my place back outside on the deck in a new hammock-style rocking chair my daughter gave me for my birthday. I popped open a Mike's Hard Lemon, rested my head back on a pillow and closed my eyes, savoring the experience as Joni's tunes graced the night air. The temperature had cooled a bit but it was still very comfortable; I seriously considered sleeping for the night out there in that position but I was worried it might rain. I didn't care about me but I wouldn't have wanted the speakers to get wet. After the last tune ended, I watched the clouds roll by a nearly full moon and felt it had been the perfect ending to a perfect day as I brought the speakers inside and headed for the bed.
