I happened to spot a link on msn's Canadian website to "top ten dog names." On the top ten female dog names - they also give names of famous *people* (but not famous dogs) who have these names - are these: Coco (which is Joni's Jack Russell terrier's name - she's not mentioned, but Chanel is, of course) and Chelsea (no mention of the Joni song or buns here but Ms Clinton is mentioned). http://www.lifenetwork.ca/life_online/top_10/top10_6_2. asp ===== Catherine Toronto ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 6 Jul 2003 15:05:13 -0400 From: "PA.Net" Subject: It's 'madding' crowd From Mastertexts.com: An immediate success when it was first published in 1874, (Thomas Hardy's 'Far From The Madding Crowd' is) a 'pastoral tale' of the wilful and capricious Bathsheba Everdene, her three suitors - the faithful shepherd Gabriel Oak, the lonely widower Farmer Boldwood, and the dashing but faithless Sergeant Troy - and the tragic consequence of her eventual choice remains one of the most enduring and popular English novels. Happy Independence weekend everyone. I spent the weekend in Asbury Park. Who would guess?!? LOL! Asbury Partners canceled the music festival at Convention Hall where I was supposed to see Lucinda Williams for lack of ticket sales. The Grand opening of the Cadillac Ranch Saloon is postponed for three more weeks. So instead I went to the Stone Pony both nights to see La Bamba, John Eddie, Gary US Bonds, Bobby Bandiera and South Side Johnny and The Asbury Jukes. My friend Tony Armato AKA Boccigalupe and his band Bocci and The Bad Boys played out on the beach yesterday afternoon with the 90 degree sun beating down in their faces...where they feckin' nuts or what?!? Asbury was mobbed yesterday. Everyone was expecting Bruce to show up, but he was vacationing with his family in Lake Placid, NY. I knew he wouldn't be there because Tony told me so, but I was there to see Southside and Gary anyways. yeah, right.... Gary set included: A New Song(can't remember name) Jole Blon New Orleans Rendezvous Daddy's Come Home Out Of Work Dedication Roll Of The Dice This Little Girl (Another new song) Quarter To Three SSJ: On The Beach Fade Away - was killer! I just visited their website and clicked on the e-mail link for requesting Joni footage, but the e-mail was sent back to me as undeliverable, and I can't figure out what went wrong. Has anyone else out there ever tried putting in a request? It would be nice to see Joni get played more on the tube! She's in great voice, but she isn't singing "The Trolley Song" or "The Man That Got Away." Instead, she's covering Joni Mitchell's "A Case of You," tearing it up on Freddie Mercury's "Bohemian Rhapsody" and stirring souls with Leonard Cohen's majestic "Hallelujah." -- From a review in the San Fran Chronicle by Edward Guthman http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/chronicle/archive/2003/06/26/DD13 2946.DTL Which makes me wonder, what no-longer-with-us singer would you like to see come back from the dead to perform a Joni song, and which song would it be? Aside from Ethel Merman singing "Just Like This Train" (SHAKIN' INTO TOWN WITH THE BREAKS COMPLAININ'), of course. --Bob ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 6 Jul 2003 22:26:08 -0700 From: "kakki" Subject: Re: Joni vs. Laura Murphy quoted: > "The music of Laura Nyro, who still lacks her rightful place in rock history, > 'happens to be the most original, resourceful and powerful composed by any > woman in the field of popular music over the last 50 years' - implicitly > superior, in other words, to that of the more feted Joni Mitchell." It's a valid argument although I've personally settled the quandry by regarding them as equally great but totally different (or unique in that they are incomparable to most). I think that opinions like this one from Hoskins may come from the fact that Laura has been generally less feted than Joni and therefore has become the underdog that many wish to root for. Joni mostly exceeds Laura in lyrics and mostly equals Laura in music. Laura sometimes greatly exceeds Joni in performance and in the originality of her musical compositions. It's a push. ;-) Kakki ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 07 Jul 2003 02:04:29 -0400 From: ljirvin@jmdl.com Subject: Today in History: July 7 1968: Joni performed tonight at the Bitter End in New York City.
