It WAS strange and surprising. I wanted to ask the sweet old lady behind the counter if she knew where the tape or whatever came from but figured she probably wouldn't know. It was some kind of modern day Musak compilation because the next song was something cheesy from the 70s. Forgot to add that this Jericho was an instrumental and was very beautiful - like something from a Brian Blade album. I searched through about 400 "Jerichos" on CDNow until my computer crashed twice and I gave up ;-) There were a few from the trance music genre that looked like possibilities but there were no listening samples for them. It seems elusive but I'll keep looking and maybe even ask the hospital "music coordinator" for more info next visit! ;-) Kakki ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Jun 2003 13:22:54 +0100 From: "Laurent Olszer" Subject: Neil Young, little jc in other Neil news, several of his records are being re-released today on cd, many that have never been released on cd before. > > I bet the Rust list (Neil Young Discussion List) is hopping now! > > Bob > Hi Bob, That's exciting news. Do you have any details for those of us not on Rust List? As far as I know the only unreleased album is On the Beach, which happens to be one of my personal faves. The bootleg CDs of it were not so good in quality. You mention "many" albums???? Also, to add a comment to Musicisspecial's post, Neil and Joni are the only 2 artists I know who are totally unpredictable as far as what style the next album or concert is going to be. And that's one thing I love about them. Laurent ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Jun 2003 13:15:48 +0100 From: ReckersL@ebrd.com Subject: Buckley/Joni Hi Garret! I must admit I avoided the Mystery White Boy album, because I had been quite disappointed with some of the other albums that had been released after his death such as Sketches for My Sweetheart. I felt Grace was so perfect, that I'd rather live with that, rather than hear more and more second rate albums being milked out of unfinished and discarded recordings. But just as you avoided Jeff only to regret it later, maybe I shouldn't avoid the MWB album either? I promise I'll give it a try! All the best, Lieve. PS It breaks my heart to think that Jeff played Glastonbury sometime in the nineties and I missed it in unblissful ignorance! PPS His father Tim Buckley gets compared to Joni quite often, for the start in folk music, the great development in style through a high number of albums that often left the old fans baffled, the refusal to go commercial, and the experimentation with other styles such as jazz... (See article comparing Tim and Joni on the website http://www.timbuckleyandfriends.com/TimBuckleyandFriendsindex.html - then scroll ALL THE WAY down, yes even way past the listing for the "Joni Mitchell page" and you come to an article heading (in red) entitled "Blue ... Blue Afternoon" which deals exactly with these similarities. To go there direct: http://www.timbuckleyandfriends.com/BlueBlueAfternoon.html) PPS I have taken the audacity of removing the NJC tag because of that PPS. If anybody replies to the Buckley topic only, please replace the tag! -----Original Message----- From: Garret [SMTP:sprout@eircom.net] Sent: Wednesday, June 25, 2003 11:05 AM To: ReckersL@ebrd.com Cc: joni@smoe.org Subject: Stop the Car! (Freeze in the bathroom!) NJC Lieve, i'm so glad you mentioned Jeff Buckley!! I have finally finished reading Dream Brother, the combined biographies of Tim and Jeff Buckley. It is a great read. Im not usually a biography person (although i really enjoyed the Karen O Brien book, and a Patti Smith bio by Victor Bockris that Patti's fans seem to detest). I tried to resist being a Jeff Buckley fan initially (way back when he was doing the rounds of the small concert venues and i was at that "first-concert" age). I didn't go. In fact, i waited a few years for my first concert which was Jewel's solo tour in 97. Only then did i become a Jeff Buckley fan, and regretted entirely my stubborn decision not to like him previously. I only tried to resist liking him because it seemed like everybody i knew worshipped him. The great thing about discussions like this is that they remind me of music i like but may not have listened to in a long time:-) Have you heard the Mystery White Boy live album from 2000? It is astounding. If i recall correctly Jacky also likes Jeff Buckley??? GARRET ______________________________________________________________ This message may contain privileged information. This in a nutshell describes how cool you are Kakki! I know the feeling of wading through hundreds of songs with Joni titles...no way to search on "Love", "Blue", "River", or all those brief titles. A search for "Carey" turns up one Joni reference for every hundred Mariah reference. Thankfully most of the websites have fairly flexible "search by song title" engines. CDBaby doesn't, but I've been begging them to add that feature. Thankfully, most of Joni's song titles are unique, and if you find a "Hissing Of Summer Lawns", "Urge For Going", or "Song To A Seagull" you can be pretty darn sure it's a Joni cover. I have stumbled upon a "Chelsea Morning" that was not Joni's, and even a "Last Time I Saw Richard" that was another song! An electronic Arrr, the life of a Joni-coverholic is a life fraught with snares and dangers! :~) Bob NP: Sara K, "Easy Street" ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Jun 2003 11:37:49 EDT From: FMYFL@aol.com Subject: Joni mention in Windy City Times http://www.windycitymediagroup.com/article-34658.html Just a "small mention" of Joni in this interview with writer Paul Lisicky. I just read that, Jimmy...a pretty lengthy Joni mention, actually. The writer calls Joni the "Judy Garland of his generation" in terms of her gay following. Before you listen to that be sure to listen to the live in Chicago release. That is outstanding. I had the priviledge of seeing Jeff play live and it was one of the top 10 concerts I have ever seen (out of 500+) -- and of course, Joni also figures prominently in the top 10. :-)) e ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Jun 2003 17:17:47 -0500 From: "mia ortlieb" Subject: re: Neil Young I was at Neil's show in Milwaukee, also. And e, you are correct, Neil was sooooo awesome! For anyone that's on the fence about attending this show coming to a town near you, don't let the critics fool you. Neil was fabulous and everybody in the crowd loved the show. Neil really goes out on a limb here (is that really anything new? not with Neil) with Greendale. His show is like a broadway musical. He has a full cast of characters and stage props. The story that unfolds is both funny and sad. I even cried during several moments and can't stop thinking about it. His lyrics also make reference to Bob Dylan and John Lennon. No Joni, though, as I listened very attentively.
