And thanks for the great intro. Wow, you've been lurking for a couple of months, and you stuck around, instead of thinking that we're all nutz?? You must be ONE OF US! :~) As for me, my intro to "Joni" was when I heard Hejira for the first time. I was aware of Joni prior to that, but this record came from a whole different place altogether, and she's had me mesmerized since. Did she interact with the others? A duet with Cass, perhaps? I'd love to see this, but it's probably a mision impossible! I've got a question for you: Who is the moderator of the JoniMitchellfans Yahoo.group? Browsing at Yahoo groups some ten days away, I found some interesting groups, to wich I inscribed. That group (JoniMitchellfans) isn't open to everybody (as others are), so I inscribed and I'm still waiting for an answer: does it mean I'm a "persona non grata"? That group I find it very useful to share files: - - photos (like that Winter Lady scannings from songbook David Callan tried to send to this list, the cover of some TV guide someone talked about some months ago... - - docs (like that Jazziz article Heather is transforming in a Word doc) - - and some MP3, too: I mean by that: would it be useful to upload some rarities (that Beth Nielsen Chapman's You turn me on, I'm a radio, that Johnny Cash's The long black veil... don't you find interesting?) In a group like singers-songwriters they have some unuseful (& piracies) uploaded (NY's Harvest, BD's Tomorrow... even some Beatles one!), and, as nobody moves them off, one can't upload nothing new, more interesting (i.e. rare & unreleased material). Excuse my repeating words, that was for asking: who's that group's moderator? Many thanks for your attention Have a Wonderful time & !Sigue Siempre Sonriendo! Many thanks for your fast answer! I've noticed this group hasn't very much movement (besides, who needs to post in it when we have that wondrous JMDL?), last two postings are about march, I think. It's very interesting, indeed, to share files (pictures and so on) Maybe we can start another yahoo.group if moderator isn't, by now, no longer interested in it. I think I'll wait one month (after holidays' return) and I'll manage to found a new "sharing Joni's" group, if you're interested in it. I'll make you know. Welcome to the mix, hope it turns out for you to be the great journey in music that it has been for me:-) My hooking up with Joni story: When i was a kid (late 80s early 90s) my dad had a number of mix tapes he had made. One such tape is relevant to this little story. It was made mostly of songs from the record collection of one of his brothers, Martin, who then had, in large part, the same style taste in music that i have now. My dad had labelled the collection Singer and Song. There was Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Simon and Garfunkel etc on this particular tape. Ours is a house is which some music is always playing, and it has always been this way. Diana Ross (with and without supremes), Smokey RObinson, Gladys Knight, S & G, Barbra Streisand, Bette Midler, Roxy Music, Blondie and so many others are hte music i was reared on. On this tape there was one song at the end of hte first side that had not been written on the index card thingy. It was a short song. Lyrics along the lines of "Woke up it was a chelsea morning....". It enchanted me - the wonderful, quirky, very natural voice with great "swinging power", the guitar, the lyrics. I asked my dad who the singer was and he said "im not sure; its either janis joplin or joni mitchell". The song stayed at the back of my mind for years. And then i bought a Janis Joplin cd in search of this song. Oddly, it wasn't on the album i chose. So i bought antoher one:-) I had been a Fleetwood Mac fan for some years, and read an interview with Stevie Nicks. SHe cited Joni as one of her biggest early inspirations. So, on a whim, i bought Hits near the end of 1998. Whaddya know....track two, Chelsea Morning. And it has gotten better since then:-) I joined JMDL at the end of 1999 i think. Check out the Museum of Broadcast History (or maybe a JMDLer in NYC will want to). You can't copy anything, but you can watch -- and that's good enough for Chauncey Gardiner and me!
