Looks like our lobbying paid off - BBC4 is showing a full 90 minutes (no adverts) of Joni Mitchell WOHAM on Tuesday at 9pm. Woohooo! I saw it on Ticketmaster.com. I love the Roy Rodgers vignette on The WOHAM DVD. Joni shares about gravitating to playing with boys rather than girls as a child. BUT they wouldn't let her be RR, so she gets a capgun; they let her be in the posse. She talks her doubtful folks into getting her a RR hat and shirt. She runs out to proudly display her new outfit only to be told she now gets to be Dale Evans! She winds this around as a metaphor for her entire life in the BIZ, surrounded by males- yet being measured differently. Same story, new twist. All the best, Janine ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 Jun 2003 12:40:32 -0400 From: "michael o'malley" Subject: Lumberstuff I'm giving this another shot - I think I had one Chardonnay too many when I sent out the last one! So here's a second try... Lumberstuff I encountered the Deity's progeny He was perambulating along the way And of him I inquired what is your destination And to myself he thus replied I am headed below towards the Yasgur homestead Whence I shall become one with a stone and spin gang And sleep outdoors on the ground And endeavor to liberate my spirit We are bits of cosmic matter We are blonde And we should all hastily retreat To that planted place May I perambulate along at your side I have arrived at this place to escape the haze And I sense I am a gear in a mechanism changing direction Well perhaps it is simply the present calendar period Or it might just be the hour of humanity Alas I do not understand myself And existence is for education We are bits of cosmic matter We are blonde And we should all hastily retreat To that planted place When we arrived at that town 30 kilometers east of JONIFEST We were 500,000 powerful With melody and merriment in all places And I imagined in my sleep I envisioned the fighter planes Galloping firearms across the firmament Metamorphosing into morphos Beyond our collective identity We are bits of cosmic matter We are blonde And we should all hastily retreat To that planted place ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 15 Jun 2003 11:01:21 -0700 From: "Kate Bennett" Subject: Re: Saccharine fowl david, i agree with those who said that this version was amazing! www.katebennett.com "Lyrically, it's a work of art overall. Not that I think they shouldn't of course. Just the volume compared to other people.< www.katebennett.com "Lyrically, it's a work of art overall. Brilliant writing, absolutely." I will get (force) my friend to watch it. It's taken a long time but I have worked on him and he is slowly understanding that Joni is amazing. He now has 3 Joni albums (we know that's not enough) but I don't think he yet realizes just how amazing she is. WOHAM should help do the trick. Following the completely negative responses from the Beeb to my e-mails requesting that WOHAM be shown, I've just discovered that it's being transmitted on Tuesday night on BBC 4 at 9 pm! And I've just ordered the DVD - - typical. Sadly, the percentage of the population who can get this channel is not that high but, spread the word. I have to go out but will try to ensure the video is set.
