Your room is blue And so are you! And so's the bed! Blue in your head! And outside too! Will he love you That guy you knew? Now that you're blue And ring his phone Will he be there? Or not at home? The rain comes down Down on the ground Savannah's wet I'm not home yet The porch light shows Palm trees in rows Like cellophane Slick in the rain And black as night It's just not right! Hey guy back home! Do you think you Will love me still When I call you? When I'm back there In Bel Air's Zoo? I know the girls Chase after you Elephantine! They say of you! The biggest one In all the zoo! You say to them 'Go 'way, girls! Shoo! You'll get red spots Unless you do!' I hope that you Will think of me Cause when you do I think of you! I'm on my way I'm on my own But any day I'll be back home Now tell those girls, Say 'Joni's mine! And I tell you That she's the best In Bel Air's Zoo! And she'll be home!' So please be true! Twenty-four states And license plates All on these maps Piled in my lap From sea to sea They call to me And ask 'What do You think of me?' But do you think You'll smile and wink Say 'I love you!' When I get back To Bel Air's Zoo? I feel the same Old funny way The way I felt On yesterday I thought I'd feel Another way But these old blues Won't go away They hide below Away from day They'll come again To have their say I think you might But still, will you? Still feel the love I feel for you When I get home To Bel Air's Zoo? It seems like we Cannot agree You sneak around Where I can't see The things you do When you are free Like Russia once Was hid behind An iron wall We cannot find A dialogue That makes us feel All safe and sound A place to heal We tally up The winning games Total lost ones We're just the same! That gets so cold! A war that's old! We'll have a meal And seal the deal In a fair way In some cafe We must have peace! Lay down at least Our sneaky ways And wand'ring days! My kids download so much stuff from that, that I have to check all the time to make sure they've disconnected when they're done be very afraid of most of those download/p2p clients. they are generally so full of spyware and adware that its just plain ridiculous. i had to reformat my pc after installing one of them - every time i booted up i got pop ups with all sorts of strange ads, when i was browsing IE would go where *it* wanted, not where i wanted. gee, now whoda thunk that people making a living by enabling us to steal copyrighted material would be so underhanded :-) actually, i have now installed kazaa lite which is great. it is a hacked (whos hacking the hackers??) version of kazaa with all the spy/ad ware gutted out, and an artificially inserted high participation level. works way better than the *official* kazaa. ron ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Jun 2003 10:09:47 +0200 From: "ron" Subject: Fw: that kazaa thing aaaaaarrrrrggggghhhhh did it again!@!!!!!!! sorry folks its very early in the morning............. ron ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Jun 2003 08:04:34 EDT From: Aerchak@aol.com Subject: Re: joni's smoking I agree with Kate that smoking is an addiction. It has been said that it is harder to give up than heroin. Smokes love their cigaretted but i don't believe they like being smokers and would prefer to be nonsmokers. But I also believe that nonsmokers often look upon it as a characrer flaw rather than the addiction it truly is If it was so easy to quit, then everyone would just quit and that would be that. I loathe the fact that I smoke. But everytime my mother lectures me about it, I smoke a pack The ONLY person that will meke me quit is me. It is beyond my comprehension for someone to suggest that it is time for Joni to quit. There's a certain group of her fans that are looking at her as some sort of nostalgia act. Maybe they listen to her music up to 1974, and that's it. The depth of expression in her present day singing did not exist in the old days. I've been listening to her since Ladies Of The Canyon came out, and I feel that her music in the last 10 years, is as great as anything she's done before. I love all of her work, but I'll always reach for a live concert recording from post '94 before I'd play an earlier show. I am sure that Bob was being sarcastic in his post just to get people going. I am sooooo tired of hearing about Joni's smoking, it absolutely infuriates me. All of these people are supposed to love and respect her so much but they can't fucking accept the fact that she is a die hard smoker. Fuck them and their judgements. Andrea ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 08 Jun 2003 14:23:34 -0400 From: Bruce Righter Subject: HDCD processing on "Both Sides Now" Both Sides Now is HDCD-compatible generally; however the light on the CD player (that indicates HDCD encoding) goes out on TWO tracks--"Case of You and Both Sides Now. There doesn't seem to be any degradation in sound, but some people on audio gear forums have wondered about this. Could it just be that the Joni-penned songs couldn't be licensed as HDCD-compatible or some other legal stipulation??? Thanks, Tonto ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Jun 2003 11:34:21 -0700 (PDT) From: Chrys Jordan Subject: Re: It's official: tigers have knees. I didn't mean to open a can of worms here, with the issue of Joni's voice. A few thoughts. Music is in itself a matter of taste. I have a lot of musical heroes (Roger Waters and Brian Eno come to mind) who can't sing, but manage to do so anyway. Roger rants and raves with deep conviction, and Eno can always synthesise his voice. Myself, I'm a drummer. I can't sing very well and never could that well. When I was 17 I could (sometimes) sing along with Christine McVie, and now that I'm nearing 34, which makes it another 17 years gone somewhere, I can't do the pitch anymore. Same problem; doing a pack a day right now. So I didn't bring this up to attack Joni for smoking; that would sort of be like Stalin publicly denouncing Hitler as a monster and a murderer. I never got the new version of "Both Sides, Now" because I have loved that song since I was like 4 or 5 years old; I sing it often, albeit more deeply (too male) and to think of Joni's performance of that song being anything less than extraordinary is, well, unthinkable for me. None-the-less, I'm filling up my Joni collection: next on the agenda is TURBULENT INDIGO, if nothing else that title rings something in me. (True confession: one reason I got HEJIRA was to see if Joni understood the term; in my view, she did understand enough to use it as an analogy.) So I'll probably get used to her new voice over time. Joni's albums are worth growing into. Indeed, there is more that just the voice itself. I can think of a number of singers on the popular radio today who can sing better than Joni, but their songs are hardly worth singing.
