The information statement accompanying the listing states that Westwood Music wants to make sure that the guitar is sold to a "fan." I guess they mean a "fan with SERIOUS cash!" Given the guitar's current condition, they may be a little optimistic. Maybe they should include a tune up and reconditioning by Joel Bernstein, just to make sure that the guitar can still support Joni's tunings on a regular basis. I wonder if there were special adjustments made by Bernstein to accomodate specific tunings. Remember, Joni used to be handed one guitar after another prior to the Parker Fly/VG-8 and the tunings all have diffferent stress effects on the instruments. I've seen some great pieces come and go on e-Bay, including Joni's silver metal flake finish Fender Rhodes (that a nagging suspicion has me wondering if she recorded "Woodstock" with) that filtered through John Guerin and sold for only $1200. or so. Who hasn't dreamed of picking out "Hejira" and hearing the perfect sound return through the Roland Jazz Chorus amp? Oh well, too dear for me. Y'know: Champagne dreams on a beer pocket. No doubt someone was offstage madly tuning for the next song in those days. I agree that, given the deterioration of this guitar, they are being optimistic. If you restore it, then it is not her original axe, if you don't, it's a mess. I have also seen Joni's Mellotron on ebay. Don't know if she ever used it on a recording. My wife gets this STUPID magazine called "Lucky". It's a magazine about shopping. Just in case that sounds too unreal to be beleivable, I'll repeat it...It's a magazine about shopping. Anyway, she gets some points for noting that on page 177 of the June edition, Joey O shoes is offering a "Joni Mitchell" shoe, ONLY $125.00 a pair. Also on the same page they offer a Liz Taylor & Stevie Nicks model. Don't know if Joni designed it, or if she wears them, or what. I went to the Joey O (www.joeyo.biz) website but the shoes are not featured anywhere that I could see. So maybe if you can't afford one of Joni's Ibanez geetars, you can settle for a pair of Joni Mitchell shoes. Bob, waiting now for Les to offer up the "Joni in Footwear" section on the JMDL. Paz should be the one to run it as I have it on good authority that he wears Candies in private. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 May 2003 19:01:20 -0700 From: "Mark or Travis" Subject: The Heedless Female Offspring of Don Juan I'm the heedless female offspring of Don Juan I emerged a duo of twenty-four hour periods on your rear extremity That duo of solar orbits in the eleventh month prior to the initial flurry of crystallized water particles Yonder upon the enormous and understated flatlands of unknown A bisected-lingua'ed life essence orates Exalted as a five cent tribal leader Sparking to life an antiquated Wurlitzer And he declares 'Reptiles along the steel train road bed' He declares 'Symbolic American birds in flying machine emissions' He declares 'Spring-like spirals surrounding bird coverings and bird claws on reptilian skin' He declares 'Crushed rock beneath the abdominal armor' He declares 'Air rushing through flight enabling appendages' He declares 'Large feathered & cold-blooded creature drooping its lower extremity in dry dirt, Reptilian miniature paper glider tethered with twine aloft My origins are empty-spaced grasslands Endowed with a modicum of sagacity and a plethora of blarney The period of darkness previous to this, the phantom of my antiquated aspirations re-played themselves on the fifth station of my tv dial And it keened so eerily for its American Symbol of Freedom essence I came close to shattering and weeping The bisected-lingua'ed life essence guffawed at my expense He declared 'Your snake will not be gainsaid!'
