There was a recording released by Bob Marley which is a "re-working" of a Richie Havens song co-written with Mark Roth. Wally unearthed this fact in an interview with Roth and this is mentioned in MOJO, in answer to a reader's query about the "similarity" between Havens' and Marley's records. After the show I had the opportunity to chat with the incredible (and cute) keyboardist from Peter Gabriel's band, Rachel Z from NYC. So I told her I had purchased her Joni tribute album (thanks to SC Bob's recommandation) and Rachel said that although she was not a huge fan as we all are, Joni was obviously a major influence in her musical upbringing. Very nice young lady with already 5 albums (I think) under her belt! Hey, that sounds very cool & thanks for telling, Laurent. That was one of my favorite CD's from last year (Moon At The Window). I won't go on about it any more because it's just a monologue, but I'll add that the cd is available on ebay, half.com, etc for considerably less than full price. She really has a fresh take on the melodies and is extremely talented...after all, would she be in Gabriel's band if she wasn't? ;~) Bob NP: Pink Floyd, "Pigs On The Wing 2" ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 May 2003 13:56:50 -0400 From: Jerry Notaro Subject: Re: Rachel Z, little Joni content Laurent Olszer wrote: >Hi all > >Just came back from a trip which took me among other places to Birmingham, UK, >where I saw Peter Gabriel 2 nights ago. >After the show I had the opportunity to chat with the incredible (and cute) > Lucky yopu, Laurent. There are very few people out there who experiment with smack and don't develop a debilitating problem. Snortable Heroin was not readily available back then, and I think her comment about 'trying everything except mainlining heroin' says all it needs to - no further speculation necessary.< from those i know in recovery, i agree with you, it always starts as something that appears to be helpful & then turns around & devours you... >Joni told Musician Magazine, in their cover piece about Artists and Drug-Related inspiration, that using cocaine started as a real creativity boosting activity, but soon deteriorated and turned on you resulting in a void. The N.E. Jonifest is only 2 1/2 months away and many of us are looking forward to a great time filled with music, food, drinks, laughter, dancing, hiking, enjoying the beautiful Catskill Mountains, but mostly the camaraderie with new and old friends. Although the attendance for this year is good, it's still not as good as expected. Some people would love to be there, but are unable to due to finances. As you know, Ashara has set up a scholarship fund to help these people who want to attend. It's completely anonymous, but any small amount you can send will help. Think about the times Ashara has sent you a video tape, or when Bob Muller or John Van Tiel has sent you a CD. Yes, this list is about Joni, but for many people it's a place for friendship. Help out a friend, or better yet........help yourself out to a wonderful time and come join us at the Full Moon Resort on August 8th - 11th. In case you didn't know, these festivals are fundraisers to keep this list alive, as well as JoniMitchell.Com. Please make a donation of any amount and send to: Ashara Productions, LLC 40 Parsonage Lane Topsfield, MA 01983 USA Thanks for your help! Indie-music.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 May 2003 18:52:11 -0700 (PDT) From: Little Bird Subject: For Bob Dylan fans (no joan) SCORSESE PLANS FILM ON LIFE OF BOB DYLAN LOS ANGELES How many roads must a man walk down before Martin Scorsese makes a movie about him? The answer, my friend, is in the tentatively titled Bob Dylan Anthology Project, a biography about the iconic folk singer directed by the Gangs of New York filmmaker. The film, planned for release in 2005, will chronicle Dylan's 1963 breakthrough and the cultural and political influence of his music, Scorsese and his producing partners said. "I've admired and enjoyed his many musical transformations," Scorsese said in a statement. "For me, there is no other musical artist who weaves his influences so densely to create something so personal and unique." In addition to playing in some theatres, the movie will also be broadcast on PBS in the United States and the BBC in the United Kingdom. The documentary is in the tradition of The Last Waltz, Scorsese's 1978 concert film about The Band, which also featured Dylan. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo!
