I don't think so From: "Lucy Hone" Subject: Ripping Joni at the FEST? I don't think so... Sorry but you can count me out of ever behaving like some star struck loon.. and I have never got the feeling that anyone here would behave like that either. I admire her music and like most of it but to meet her would be neither here nor there. What was so nice for me when I did meet her - we talked about her cold. I neither gushed nor lost my voice. What I learned at that time was just about stars are ordinary people, too. I wasn't quite the star struck loon I thought I might be! At that time,I empowered others (not just Joni) an awful lot. Everyone knew better/more than me. Meeting her was one of several very useful lessons. My thoughts about Joni coming to the fest would be that she would just turn up, join in the listening, maybe sing a song or two and leave with no fuss... AND I THINK THOSE WHO COUNT THEMSELVES HER REAL FANS would let her go with out demands for photos, autographs or yelling out "HEY I AM YOUR No 1 Fan" I am 46 and have to say that with age has come a certain amount of dignity and recognition that just cos I bought the albums the singer does not owe me any favours.. I think that's absolutely right. I thought she was very kind to me on that day twenty years ago. On a patient day,she might also be kind to those who need to feel her number one fan,too - but I'm glad when I met her all those years ago we talked cold remedies! It's been a very good thing for me.Good wishes Anita Lucy ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 3 May 2003 11:47 +0100 (BST) From: steph@cix.co.uk (Anita Gabrielle) Subject: My attempt to comment apology My attempt to reply to "Lucy Hone" Subject: Ripping Joni at the FEST? In the section called 'Music' he writes: 'I am a product of my imte and was a great Beatles fan. I used to love the Mamas and the Papas, especially the voice of Mama Cass. In late Eighties I was besotted with Carly Simon. 'You're So Vain' is a classic. Joni Mitchell's Blue is one of my favourite albums. I have always liked women writers. They come from a position of having been used by their lovers in some way and it makes them put incredible stuff on the page.' Yayyyyy I've always admired Brian Cox. Now I know why! What a night, Joni looked and sounded amazing. There was just Joni alone on that big stage with guitar, piano and appalachian dulcimer and her presence was overwhelming. As she came on stage a guy ran from the front and climbed on to the stage and gave her a big bunch of flowers and a kiss on the cheek, i was green with envy. At the end of the show, as an encore, Joni had us all stand up and sing Circle Game game with her, goose bumps and hair standing on the back of my kneck, it was incredible. Every time i pass the Odeon i think about that night, magical memories. Jackson Browne was pretty good too. I picked up a very good copy of Miles of Aisles at a yard sale today. I am going to donate it to the Jonifest '03 Giveaway, so if you want it -- go to JMDL.com and register for Jonifest! On another note, right after I paid for it I ran into an old friend I've known since I was about 12. He looked at the album and said, "Joni Mitchell! She's depressing." I really didn't have time to straighten him out. OK. My part of the Perma-Vine is complete. I sent the "original" to Jerry jlav55@attbi.com who lives in Texas (along with G.W. Bush and the Dixie Chicks). Not wanting to politicize this project I did NOT send the extra (burnerless) copy to G.W. or the Girls but rather to Andrea E. of Satatoga springs, N.Y. Aerchak@aol.com And to internationalize this whole thing I sent an extra one to Emiliano Patiqo Doval who lives in Ferrol (A Coruqa) in Spain emilianopd@mundo-r.com in spite of the fact that Spain got suckered in...opps .. I almost slipped there! So, you see, there IS still hope for Humanity. To Jerry: the ball is yours! Past it on. To Andrea and Emiliano: Enjoy! We have a worthy recipient for the copy. It's Dawn B. (dawnburns@attbi.com) from California. And I'm still waiting for the next burner-enabled lister to step up for his/her turn.
