But I have a beginner's question: my PC has two CD drives, one of them rewritable. Is that all I need to burn music CDs, or is there some special software? About me... I grew up in the sixties surrounded by patio rock bands, but in the last few years I've become intensely interested in classical music. In fact, I pretty much announced to family and friends over the past year that I no longer have time or interest in pop music. Then I saw the American Masters segment on Joni and was fascinated. (To save face, I'm thinking of just declaring Joni's music "classical.") What I admire most about Joni is her lyrics. I'm a professional writer, but so far I've written almost exclusively about technology, and more recently politics. I'd like to write lyrics if for no other reason than to round out my style. Sorry for the lack of the NJC tag, but I also would like to encourage more listers to attend Jonifest. This will be my 5th Jonifest, and I can't express enough to everyone what a wonderful experience it is. My first one (which was really Pazfest), I was so scared to travel and meet people whom I'd only known through cyberspace. My friends and family thought "What the hell are you doing?"...........but it was a chance that I just had to take, and I'm a very routine person and never would do something like this. Well, it was the best decision I ever made. Not only did I meet people that I had corresponded with on the computer, but I met people that had never even posted. I think we all know by now that people who love Joni Mitchell and her music are good and caring people. It's true, and I enjoyed meeting everyone. If you're on the fence about going because you don't sing or play an instrument.........not to worry. There are plenty of us that can't sing a note (especially ME). Sure I love listening to the great musical talent that's on the list, but I mostly attend to talk, laugh, eat, and PARTY with new and old listers. I was even a little hesitant about my 4th Jonifest last year, since the living quarters would be in cabins and inns. I'm a real princess, and my idea of camping is a large motor home parked outside my house. The Full Moon might be a little rustic, but it's CLEAN and is set in one of the most beautiful areas in the country. It's so tranquil. You can make Jonifest a nonstop party, or you can read a book by a beautiful stream. You can make the short drive to the town of Woodstock and visit some really cool shops. This past year I took my partner (Ed). He's more of a wimp in the wilderness than I am. He's not even that much into Joni's music, but he had a great time meeting and partying with everyone. So if you're still a little nervous about driving or flying to the Catskills by yourself, bring your spouse, partner, or good friend. You won't regret it. Like I said, Jonifest is what you make of it,................ but no matter what, you will always be welcomed with several open arms. Oh, and Allison and Julius bring my favorite champagne "Veuve Cliquot" mmmmmm. Yall show up! You get to hear some GREAT accents too! Barbara Hindley is Chuck Eisenhardt's wife, and she and I have always bonded at events around prior jonifests (like atty may's) and on random boston visits. i went up to boston in december to have dinner with ric, roberto, ashara, maggie, chuck and barbara, and smurph, and i completely twisted barb's arm to come. and maggie got on the phone and asked Alex Krutsky, her husband, if he was in again. he is! i know for sure he had a better time last year than he EVER expected. one thing to look forward to: i will definitely be into getting people together for another adirondack wilderness hike. the one on sunday last year, with only five of us (on the sunday after i stayed up until 6 am and awoke at 9:30!) was wonderful. also, a little birdy tells me there's going to be a show tune singalong/workshop. sing out, june! i'll be debuting my sebastian bach-inspired version of 'damned for all time' (not) lots of other exciting names on this list, who i can't wait to see again or meet (yeay lucy hone!), but i wanted to mention one. barbara little doesn't post much, but we had a little bonding moment during bryan thomas' amazing saturday night set. then at the song circle later that night, she blew me and everyone away with a stunning, bluesy version of, if memory serves, 'to know him is to love him'. i mean, blew us away, as she did again on sunday with 'love me like a man'. i could go back and look at posts from last year, but i think those are the songs. you guys don't know what you're in for, if you've never done a jonifest before. i'm one of the people who has been to nearly the most joni-gatherings, including julie z. webb's house party in april 98 and all five asharajonifests since. once it became clear that they might happen consistently, i started thinking, after each one, 'well, i had a blast but maybe i've gone to this well of happiness enough. this should probably be my last.' every year i thought that, and i didn't commit to last year until very, very late, causing ashara much grief and inconvenience i'm sure. last year was the first year that a fest ended and i had NO DOUBT AT ALL that i would be back. i'll be there for 4 1/2 days this time (and none of this crazy 7 am bus out on monday shite either!) come! patrick np - big yellow taxi, a tribute album by christina friis-nielsen and henning olson, fabulous attendees at jonifest '02 ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 Apr 2003 16:52:03 -0700 (PDT) From: Jenny Goodspeed Subject: RE: Jonifest 2003- Is your name on here?? last year was the first year that a fest ended and i had NO DOUBT AT ALL that i would be back.
