I don't recall ever hearing that they performed together too many other times, but she did contribute a bit on vocals on his Mud Slide Slim album and some of his songs on it seem to be about her. I'm not sure that Case of You is about James. We had a discussion here a while ago trying to figure out who it was about but I don't think we ever came to any final conclusions. I think Case of You may have been composed before she started seeing him. This is so funny: >This was a great gift.. my friend said that Joni sent it to him from her personal collection but hes full of sh**..But a >great friend indeed ;) LOL - I think you should ask your friend to see what else he can obtain from her personal collection (but you must share any bounty with us ;-) Kakki ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Apr 2003 11:52:51 +0100 From: Gordon Mackie Subject: Paradise Lost (no Milton content) Hello my friends Re the sorrow/sore-oh/saw-row etc thread, the other word I love Joni saying is 'paradise', which to my ear sounds like 'peradise'. To mimic my pronunciation you would have to say pah-rah-dize. From I believe it's covers 38..(I don't have it available from where I'm typing this) there is a guy that does an incredible version of People's Parties? I can't recall his name right now. He really makes it come alive..I meant to share this with you awhile ago. Your query gave me the opportunity. This was a recording we just lucked into, very obscure, a fan from outside the list sent me the mp3. Thanks too to Les who's configured the "Joni Undercover" section to allow anyone to contact me, it's been a big help in tracking down some obscure recordings, even though about once a week I get asked "When is 'A Case Of Joni' coming out?" I'm curious about some of Joni's very early songs: A Melody In Your Name Jeremy Moon In The Mirror Strawflower Me The Fishbowl Who Has Seen The Wind Do recordings exist of any of these? I suspect that the definition below is incorrect, as well. Each case is weighed separately, otherwise you wouldn't have these big trials ala George Harrison. I can guarantee you if you used the last six notes in Yesterday as part of your song (and it was successful) you would be getting a call from Mr. McCartney's lawyer (and Ms. Lennon's, in that order ; ) ) Also you cannot 'sample' any part of a recording-even one second-without getting the permission of the owner. Bottom line, there are no hard and fast rules about plagarizing music. Photos are copyrightable as works of art and cannot be used without the owner's permission. Painting someone's photograph gets into a gray(scale) area. In the case of the Mingus painting, Joni could easily and credibly say it was from memory or another photograph because there was nothing really unique about the photo. The tilt of his head and expression, he's done that a million times. If she had copied something unique that undeniably linked the two (some kind of wallpaper, or ?) maybe legally she could be challenged. I do agree with you though, Joni plays with words and can come up with some amusing and fun lines sometimes by not always using the word you would expect her to use. Thanks a lot for your kind post! Me, sure I'm having a good moment gracias to you! In fact, it's eras since I heard anyhting so fantastic as your friend's asseveration ;-) Though I don't have the entire concert: I agree absolutely with you at that concert's Beauty. You're right to be so highly moved! BTW : it's true you haven't heard "Mud Slide Sim" or "Sweet baby James" before? These are *real treasures* for the soul. IMHO, the real height of JT's career (unlike our Queen, he losed some inspiration shortly after) Hey, don't shoot me! I think James Taylor is great, but no one of the masters.
