It was done by a writer for the Wall Street Journal. I didn't hear it but I understand it was both hot and cold. My friend told me that he remembers the writer saying that this was Joni's last CD and if it was intended to be an overview of her work, it "sagged under the weight of her career." He also said certain of the scores were too grandiose for songs which were originally intended to be simple; other songs were appropriately scored to be bigger than life. Did anyone hear this review? My friend (actually my lover) only pays close attention if it has something to do with eating! I saved that magazine for years. It was on a table in the bathroom. Eventually one of my animals did something (use your imagination) to it, and then I was moving, so I threw it out. I should have kept in a safer place but guests really enjoyed looking at it. Anyway, does anyone know the exact date/reference of that issue? What sad and shocking news about Herb Ritts' death. One just never knows. Some woman is on CNN. I'm pretty sure a cloned baby has just been born healthy. The one I'm thinking of is the cover of the "Complete Poems and Lyrics" book. (It's too bad we can't buy that one as a poster! It makes a nice wallpaper for my home PC though. Thanks, Les.) Ritts was a very successful fashion photographer. He worked for Vogue for example. Oh.... to shoot Claudia Schiffer in Hawaii. Lama Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. I put it in the player at my friend's house in the city, but too much noise and conversation was a distraction so I turned it off and waited till we got home. Drink in hand, probably a smoke, soft lighting, my lover's head on my shoulder, I listened as the CD-player randomly chose a track from Travelogue. I did not know what to expect, after all the previous criticism, but the song (I forget what it was already) knocked my socks off. Wow. The arrangements were powerfully affecting, and Joni's voice was her own (which I appreciate as a lush, warm and lovely one), and I thought "She has created something unique and beautiful again" and being overwhelmed by the majesty of it. Frankly, I was astounded. Kindof awestruck. The song that followed, I liked less because it had a too-regular, long-lasting drumbeat for my taste. I have yet to listen through the two discs from start to finish, what with the holiday bringing with it all the visitors and visiting and everything else. Tracks have been randomly played throughout the days since we've been home, and I like what she's done. Joni has impressed me, as usual. I am looking forward to two straight hours of listening to the songs in their proper order and getting the full intended effect of Travelogue. I can't always say why I love Joni's music, just that I do. Sigh. My .02. I have decided against bringing her to the emergency clinic. She is not suffering or vomiting and she survived the 8 pound tumor removal last year. Last week when Gerald was here he said," I've never seen Ana do this". She was pawing him. It takes a while to know greyhounds. It comes at an odd time, yet not so odd considering..... I talked to my mother (your grandmother) today at your mother's persistence. After my "mother" called me back as she so inevitably does, I said "here we are again", why doesn't your mum get it AT ALL. And then Ana got sick which I had been noticing and I remember my my father saying there is nothing you can do. There is a Joni Mitchell song "Nothing Can Be Done" which rings true. I can guarentee you that you will go into your next celebrated year on the planet with a great introduction and hopefully lifelong appreciation for Joni Mitchell. For those of us that were lucky enough to grow up with her and have her as an inregral part of our lives, we were blessed, but believe you me, do a little research and you will see that Joni Mitchell is and will be one of the greatest composers, songwriters, musicians, guitarists, vocalists and all time incredible artists of our time and all time.
