A cover of "Woodstock" came on by "Matthew's Southern Comfort" or some name like that - it was the worst piece of junk I have heard in a long time - I wanted to smash the CD. Speaking of "The Last Waltz", I saw it on tv for the first time about a month ago. I thought joni's version of Coyote was terrific, better than the album. Even my older brother was impressed - although he thought Joni was "Melanie" until I straightened him out. I told him comparing Melanie to Joni was like comparing a Yugo to a Bentley - he got the message. I remember that even my sister had the 45 of the MSC version. And many of the other Woodstocks I've uncovered were inspired by the MSC cover. But as always, to each his own...in defense of your opinion, it is a bit dated sounding now. Now if you want to hear some truly horrid Joni covers, I CAN set you up. I've done a "Sweet 16", but haven't caved yet to compiling a "Sour 16"! ;~) Bob NP: Keller Williams, "A Case Of You" (definitely on the sweet side!) - ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The information transmitted is intended only for the person or entity to which it is addressed and may contain confidential and/or privileged material. It is really such a beautiful album, I can't stop playing it. I recommend it to anyone who likes Joni (easy bet) and jazz. Indirectly my thanks go to Bob too, as supplier of the original copy. I do believe that this is such a cool place (the list, that is) and you people are just adorable. Thanks again and let me know if I can do anything for you. She looks so fecking beautiful! Then I gots a hankerin' for Shadows and Light. Fired up the DVD player and got into it like I was there. However I still have issues with the lip-sync! It is off, especially on Raised on Robbery, Free Man, and Shadows and Light (in certain scenes.) Furry Sings the Blues is the one to compare all the rest to. Amelia is also dead on. I'm wondering if some of this was shot on 2 different nights and then spliced together- Especially Robbery, where you can clearly see Brecker playing the sax in one scene, and there is no sax on the audio track. Then it cuts into a shot where he starts playing. Also check out her guitar strumming, and what Don Alias is playing on video as opposed to what you hear. However, I still love this video, since it was the first concert tour of hers that I ever got to experience... This two-CD set is comprised of selections from the best of the multitrack recordings of the Revue's celebrated performances in Worcester, Cambridge, Boston, and Montreal. The track list will be announced soon. A bonus DVD packaged with the set will include two songs from Bob Dylan's film Renaldo and Clara, remixed for 5.1 surround sound. Wish Reprise would do stuff like this for Joni! (But then that would put a certain SCjoniguy outta business...) Yeah I heard that version before I even knew who Joni Mitchell was (what a thought). Didn't think much of it at all and still don't. LOTC version is the definitive for me but Eva Casidy's version sounds nice. I like the guitar. > Speaking of "The Last Waltz", I saw it on tv for the first time about >a >month ago. Yeah, I said to my friend at work that I like Joni Mitchell and the first thing he said to me was 'have you heard of Melanie?'. I hadn't so he played me a record. The first thing I did was laugh. I now like a few songs by her ('Tuning My Guitar' and 'Babe Rainbow') but no she isn't quite in the same league. LOL. Steve T. But I had to mention that I was totally moved by Norah Jones, who I heard for the first time on a radio station in Seattle when I was out there on business a couple of weeks ago. I'm mystified as to why I've never heard of her in New York before; her debut CDs been out since February. She blew me away. She's all that's been playing on my CD player for the last 2 weeks. Does anyone know her work? She's a little bit Shawn Colvin, a little bit Diana Krall, maybe some Bonnie Raitt thrown in. I don't detect Joni, but she has the same ability to move me as Joni, but mostly with her voice and not with her lyrics, which is how Joni does it for me. When I got home with the CD, my 11 year old says, "Oh yeah, we saw her video on the plane when we went on vacation. I really like that song." ('Don't Know Why') Anyway, where the hell have I been?
