The DVD especially has some great extras, especially on the music and Music Director Larry Klein. There has been talk of his influence lately. In my mind, if all he ever did was coax the gorgeous Man From Mars out of Joni for this film, it would have been worth the marriage. This must be an error--or perhaps she is including a cover of Madonna's Borderline just for laughs. As I look over the song list, it seems that Joni has included quite a few tunes that speak to the current world situation--Borderline, Otis and Marlena, Slouching Toward Bethlehem in particular. If you could pull one song and insert another, what would you swap? My choice would be to substitute Circle Game for Down To You. I would pull either For The Roses (she played this arrangement on the '00 tour and it's clunky as hell) or Sex Kills (this song should be "spat out" as Joni says about 'Cold Blue Steel...' - not orchestrated). The song I'd love to hear her sub (not that it would happen) would be "Eastern Rain". I was listening to it last night and thought that it could be dressed up with some nice orchestral touches, with some exotic instruments to complement the feel of the melody. Like I say, it ain't gonna happen, but it WOULD be pretty cool. Here's my two cents worth of a random question.... Anyone know if Joni will be playing guitar - even a miniscule amount - on Travelogue? I just cannot aurally envision Coyote, for example, without guitar. If she doesn't, here's hoping the next one is like a chamber jazz-rock one, with multitracked guitar splashed all over the place. It's nice having these different imaginings about yet-to-materialise recordings. Well she's picked some really good ones not that there are really any bad ones anyway. I guess though I'd get rid of 'You Dream Flat Tires' and do 'Urge For Going'. I think that would work well. Nothing from 'Hissing..' though!
