My feelings are both of them have faults. I hope Bush has the sense not to invade Iraq. My son is in college and in ROTC. I have adjusted to the idea but worry all the time. He is my only child and I raised him alone. Last winter during the height of the terrorist war I was in Key West. I looked around at all the wealthy, arrogant people there who had not given up one thing for our common good. I thought about my father during WW2 and what he did and the country as a whole. Bush said, this is not an exact quote but very close: "We do not want to make it hard for truck drivers to come into this country.. We want to make it hard for terrorists to come into this country." Hey, if we make it hard, and they still get through, is that like doing well on Survivor? Do they get to move on to the next round? Ok, that was nasty. I am so rebuked. But kidding aside, on Bush's behalf, he did not ignore Canada for the September 11th thing, as I am sure that the September 9th event at the bridge with the Canadian PM was a way of including Canada in toe occasion. There was much said by both sides about the importance of each nation to the other, and how much we value each other. It is the media that ignored Canada in the entirety of Bush's scheduled over that week, rather than Bush ignoring Canada, he gave Canada attention of 9-9. He is 19 and loves and is involved with music and credits my good taste ie Joni Mitchell as a reason. He is going with his Urban ecology class on Thursday to NYC. He is going to meet with the architects for Ground Zero and other things such as where hawks nest in the city. We only live 99 miles from the Canadian border and both of us have strong roots with Canada. I feel like telling him to run if Bush doesn't stop and Cheney too. I am 54 and saw the heartbreak of Vietnam. By the way, it is refreshing to read such intelligent and interesting posts. Our national holiday, July 1, used to be called Dominion Day - it dates back to 1867 when Canada was created as a country unto itself under the British North America Act (see? America!) The name "Dominion" was a very popular one for businesses of all kinds, most notably a chain of grocery stores in Quebec and Ontario.
