I listened to the CD three times over before singing along with Diana Krall on her latest CD. Listening To JT last night brought back distant memories of seeing JT at Chicago's famous Theatre in the Auditorium Bulding designed By Louis Sullivan I think in 1972-3 most importantly was that Carly was there and sang her A/B side hit of the moment at the end of the concert. Our whole family are big fans, I have been since high school in 69 when I first heard Joni on radio singing "You Turn Me on I'm a Radio". Fell in love that minute and it has never changed, only blossumed. We have everyhting she has released on album and video and remember with great affection seeing Joni in concert in Sydney in 83. I work as a telescope technician and get to travel a little which I enjoy as I get to see bands I wouldn't get to see in Sydney. But I do get to see some really incredible objects that the universe has to offer. I have played guitar since the age of 8 when my parents got me my first instrument and I haven't tuned to a standard tuning for many years now. I have played in bands many time but enjoy playing with other musos for the fun of it. The loungeroom sound so much better than any pub I ever played in and the atmosphere is also more conducive to the music being played. I have lurked for a couple of days now and I see that the people here are all very friendly. I have been on Lee Shore for many years but my travelling makes it hard to catch up with other Aussie shorers as often as I would like. We did get to jam together 2 years ago in a really big prk here in Sydney which was great (Centennial Park for you Sydneysiders) Well that's me. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Aug 2002 07:47:23 -0400 (EDT) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Re: introduction - --- Don Whiteman wrote: > > > My name is Don, I'm 47 and I live in Sydney > Australia with my wife Liz and > 14yr old daughter Jemma. You may notice the list is rather quiet these days as many of us have left or are leaving to go to the Northeast Joni Fest in the Catskill Mountains in New York State, USA. I wanted to send a welcome to you from my partner Brian and myself. Your story resonates a familiar chord in many of us, of that I am certain. It is a wonderful place of learning, comraderie, kindred spirits and life long friendships and love. It is no wonder that about 80 or so of us are coming together from all corners of the world for the next 5 days, all in the name of Joni, beginning tomorrow. Everything Ive learned about Joni Mitchell, her music, her life, I have learned here. This list is an incredible source and resource of everything you have always wanted to know and more. A cast of characters, great people, intelligent conversations, and most of all, for me, it's the friendships that have developed that keep me here. In other words, you are in good company. I am always happy to hear that partners as well as children in a family love Joni too. That makes things much easier in the long run. Brian is an American and I am a Canadian. We live in South Jersey across the bridge from Philadelphia. We've both loved Joni since the 70's and remain great fans of her work, her art, her life. Brian has seen her more often than me, seems the US holds more Joni concerts than Canada. We did see her together last October in Toronto at the Hommage/tribute at Harbourfront. It was an amazing, unbelievable moment when she went up on stage, sat down and just started talking in her Joni way. She even treated us to some impromptu piano playing, something she has not done in public in approximately 30 years, so the story goes. It was awesome! Neither of us play guitar and yet we sing our hearts out anywhere and everywhere. As Joni says, the more (out of tune) voices, the better! Singing is such joy for us. We have an interest in star gazing, with not much experience at what we are seeing. Alas no scope, just a lot of feeling mesmerized at what's up there. I'm lucky, I've seen the Northern Lights dance across the cold August sky in Northern Ontario, a sight to behold, a sight i won't soon forget. You have a different sky to gaze at than we. No southern cross up here! well, that's about it for now. Always more to say. A continuing saga this place is. The list will pick up again after Monday when people return home to their computers with tales from this weekend. Do try to come next year if you can. It is worth every hour and every cent it takes to get to there. all the best, Mags and Brian, aka Magsnbrei ===== You open my heart, you do. Yes you do. - JM Yahoo! I have just added the 100th entry to Joni in Fiction on the JMDL site! Thanks to all who have contributed to this collection of Joni mentions in books, films, poetry, plays and on TV. I truly underestimated our Joan when I began this project earlier this year. I had thought there'd be just a few Joni references in fiction, but I guess even *I* can underestimate her influence! Also . . . I think I may have accidentally deleted an entry for Joni on TV. If you have submitted anything to Joni in Fiction recently, please take a look at the site and see if I have missed anything, and that I have all your information correct -- including your credit. SUE CAMERON ! ! ! Did you send me 3 Joni references from The Wonder Years? If you did, I can only find one. Sorry. I'm always running behind the times, but I have had a problem with Internet access lately (read: AOL) and I fell behind a bit. Sorry to everyone who sent me references over the last 6 weeks. I should be completely up to date now. Now I have to go pack for Jonifest. I truly wish that each and every one of you could be there. And I will miss people I've met in previous years who can't be there this time around. (This means you, Wally and MG and Sue Cameron and Kakki and Russ and Steve Polifka and Anne and Marilyn and especially the person or people I am forgetting that I will remember once I hit Send!) Take care all. And thanks to Les and Lori and to everyone who has made Joni in Fiction bigger and better than I ever imagined. --Bob ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Aug 2002 18:54:20 -0700 (PDT) From: Mags N Brei Subject: the groom's hair is longer than the bride's ... front page story from Woodbury New Jersey We are pleased to announce that Mags and Brei are officially becoming Mr. and Mrs. MagsnBrei at ten o'clock in the morning, on the twenty second day of August 2002 in Woodbury, New Jersey.
