And it *IS* HOT...one of the better volumes out there so far in my far from humble opinion. And as always, I'm armed and ready to give a couple away! Last month's lucky winners were Marianne in NY and Vad in the Ukraine. This month...who knows? It's a whole new ball game. The contest is simple - just guess a Joni song as well as the album it's from (since some of her songs appear on more than one album). Send your guess to me, not to the list. Whoever gets closest to the song I've pre-selected wins a copy of Volume 32, delivered directly to your doorstep! And I'll even have a runner-up winner as well, where I'll draw at random from all that have guessed and give another copy away, so even if you're not a good guesser, you have 2 chances to win! But you can't win if you don't guess...like Tom Waits says, "fishin' for a good time starts with throwin' in your line"... Good luck! We'll do this one quickly - I'll cut off Monday night and announce the winner(s) on Tuesday. Bob NP: Steely Dan, "what a shame about me" ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Aug 2002 09:52:17 -0500 From: "Cynthia Vickery" Subject: Re: Jonilist and partners great question, michael.... isn't it funny how this joni obsession of ours affects our families/friends, whether they want to be affected or not? gisele, my partner, had never heard of joni before she met me. she was a devotee of country music, almost exclusively, so joni wasn't even on her radar, much less on her turntable. when we first got together, we did that CD swap you've-just-GOT-to-listen-to-this thing, and, because she's a singer/songwriter, i sent her home with joni. she was immediately hooked - on what i sent. she LOVES blue and c&s and stas and ti. she tolerates hissing and djrd, and detests mingus. but i still consider her a convert. she's coming to the fest and everything..... and i caught her the other day looking through "poems and lyrics"! my ex-husband wasn't a fan. he didn't fuss too much when joni was on the CD player, but he never really *got* it, either. but i happened to walk into the room one day while he was asking his father, a minister, what an "upstairs choir" was, if he'd ever heard of such a thing. guess he was listening, after all! and margaret, my 10-year old. she and i take turns in the car - i pick a CD, then she picks a CD. she always sighs when i choose joni (though not as loudly as i sigh when she picks n*stink!!), but her eyes sure lit up last week when we heard BYT in the grocery store. maybe there's hope, huh? _______________________________________ Cindy Vickery Daniel Corporation 205-443-4718 direct 205-443-4615 facsimile http://www.danielcorp.com/ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Aug 2002 11:54:25 -0500 From: "J.David Sapp" Subject: Re: Talk to Me <<>> hey bob - you're absolutely right - i had never connected these two in this way. peace, david ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Aug 2002 13:16:38 -0400 (EDT) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Re: Jonilist and partners - --- Cynthia Vickery wrote: > gisele, my partner, had never heard of joni before > she met me. > she was a devotee of country music, almost > exclusively, so joni > wasn't even on her radar, ... and, > because she's a > singer/songwriter, i sent her home with joni. she > was > immediately hooked - on what i sent. If you're ever really pissed off at her and want to zing her one, just ask her what kind of a singer-songwriter has never even heard of Joni Mitchell? (Sorry, I'm being a pain today, but I couldn't resist.) ______________________________________________________________________ Post your ad for free now! http://personals.yahoo.ca ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Aug 2002 22:03:16 -0400 From: "Sherman" Subject: O.G. Could it mean (O.G.) Old Guard? Forgive me if some one else came up with that already. I am two weeks behind my digests. Came across an oldster named Larry Kline in Fort Lauderdale at the Port. I asked if he knew of another Larry Kline, Joni's ex? He wowed over that one. Some lucky guy with his name married to the "THE SINGER"?
