I guess the way to learn about 'us' is to keep reading and watch as the personalities take flight before you. It is a wonderful space to learn about all things Joni, which serves as a spring board to more than that. The NJC space seems to be where the life stories fall. I discovered Joni Mitchell while doing a late shift at a distress centre in small town Ontario years ago, and from there, my life has taken many a turn, with Joni at my side every step of the way. It is often said that the lyrics and music of Joni Mitchell can be seen as the sound track to a life, our life. Court and Spark was the first album of Joni's that I heard, and from there, I turned to Blue and Ladies of the Canyon. Not only will you receive the Joni education of a lifetime, you just never know who you will meet in Jmdl*land and how your life will change. again, a warm welcome to you, Mags, in South Jersey npimh: i am a canadian. ===== You open my heart, you do. I got it up in Canada. I have to say I was disappointed with it. It really didn't convey to me who Joni Mitchell is. I guess that is the trouble with bios when the person is living. A biographer doesn't have access to letters and papers and friends aren't able to be forthcoming. I found there wasn't a lot of detail. Most of the information wasn't new and it wasn't all that well written. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Jul 2002 08:50:51 -0400 From: Jerry Notaro Subject: Re: Siquomb, isn't she? I gave up and deleted the bazillion pieces of email sitting in my AOL account that have built up over the past few months and am starting fresh from the most recent digest. (1) Joni Content as measly as it is first: While at the gym, I was flipping through last week's issue of either Entertainment Weekly, US, People or Accounting Review Daily, (who can keep 'em straight), and noticed a "celebrity look alike" section. They put Aimee Mann down as morphing into Joni Mitchell, using the photo of JM taken from the Last Waltz with her guitar, burgundy danskin, wrap skirt and thunderhead necklace. Even without my glasses, that picture of Joni caught my eye right off the bat. (2)Newcomer Mary Casey writes: > I am a graphic designer in Sacramento, California. Very Groovy! Not many, (that I know of), list members in the capitol area. I live in Davis and work just outside Sacramento. Been here for 9'ish years. (3) Ongoing discussion about TIPS: The luck of the draw has me spending a fair amount of time with a group of fairly conservative people. Their stance on this is: "if you have nothing to hide then what's the issue?" And sadly, I think that is a common enough sentiment with silent majority like folks. Personally, I am not a big fan of displaying the flag. If most of my neighbors have one out, am I report-worthy for that transgression? What if I simply can't afford to buy one or am too inept to get one hanging from my front porch? By the time that comes to light, what legal and pesonal expenses have I racked up to defend myself? Or will there be more subtle consequences? As Kakki said, it's a bad and dumb idea and we can come up with a better one. (4) Bruce!!!!!!!! I have tickets to the August 27th show in San Jose! ' i think i understand ' is truly astonding, and ' roses blue ' really blows me away. i have always been partial to ' that song about the midway,' and at the risk of being burned at the stake for heresy, i will say i believe i like bonnie raitt's version just a wee bit more than joni's. how powerful is joni's a cappella ' the fiddle and the drum' ... i guess you get the point huh ? at this rate it may take me several months to get through them all, maybe even years ! i think tomarrow i will move on to LOTC. ( don't even get me started, this is the album that introduced me to joni in 1970 ! ) i'll let ya'll know when i've move on to " blue," but don't hold your breath... oh, before i leave, it strikes me that james taylor has always referred to our goddess as joan, i also believe graham nash does too. i have a friend who lived in hollywood until recently and i remember her relating once that a friend of her's,i think his name was rocky, was working with joni on a video from NRH. he was a regular bowling buddy of joni's and he too called her joan, looks as if the evidence is mounting... in joan we trust, warren keith p.s. speaking of graham nash...
