Nope, but she is also mentioned, with a pic, in the latest Rolling Stone (Dave Mathews Band on the cover). In an article about another Canadian artist whose name escapes me at present. Coming up in August 2002, "In Blue", the latest release from jazz singer Karrin Allyson. On it she covers "Blue Motel Room". This is the second BMR in the past couple of months, and I suspect that as it continues to get exposure for the wonderful torch ballad that it is it will find even more interpreters. Hey, only 300 more and it'll whiz by BSN! ;~) Also discovered yesterday via the portal of E-Bay an Israeli recording of Chelsea Morning in Hebrew! Speaking of covers, my tally of Joni covers now totals 990...so I'm excited to start counting down to the big "1000". When I hit the magic number, expect much celebration including me tooting my own horn! :~) Bob NP: Son Volt, "Strands" ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Jul 2002 11:55:47 -0400 From: "Erica Trudelle" Subject: The Jonifest Blues Well I thought it was going to work but it's not........ Due to reasons beyond my control I am not going to be able to attend this year's fest :( I was looking foward to matching text with faces, I guess I have to wait another year. Let me tell you a litle bit about myself, so you can pretend we had a real and wonderful getting-to-know-eachother moment. I am 28 years old.....I grew up in southwestern NH, but have traveled to France, Italy, Jamaica, and Mexico, and lived in northern CA for several years (Arcata). Obviously my passion for Joni is due to the fact that music and poetry have been a main focal point throughout my entire life. I've been listening to and loving Joni since I was a wee little girl and now play her music to my 13 month old daughter, Nya, all of the time (I also have my husband hooked!). I can't pick a favorite period because everytime I think I have a favorite something else fills my head and I am reborn again!!! Currently I am full blown obsessed with DJRD, lisening over and over and over....soon it will be locked into my DNA code. I am an intense daydreamer and and at times impulsive to a fault....I have my degree in Art History but plan to try my hand at silversmithing/jewelry design once I stop being a stay-at-home-mom. Other music I enjoy: Neil Young, Nina Simone, Jill Scott, Greyboy Allstars, JAZZ< JAZZ AND MORE JAZZ, almost all Reggae, Stevie Wonder, Michael Hedges, and of course Bob Dylan. Reading is also a passion, my walls are lined with books of all sujects: quantum physics, tons of Alan Watts, Buddhism, Dutch Renaissance painting, several geological studies of New England, Ella Fitzgerald's biography, and lots of Kurt Vonnegut....you get the idea...I like to read! Well sorry if I've bored you, but it was cathartic for me, it's just like we've sat over a dry martini on the porch at the Full Moon Resort. The sad part is I'll have to wait for next year to hear your stories :( I hope this year's Fest is wonderful and tickles you all silly. See you next year! What does "O.G. mean? Interestingly, of the 8 artists profiled, Joni's in the only one sentence that is all 100 positive... depending on what "O.G." means. Not too impressed with the way Avril Lavigne is presenting herself, but then self proclaimed bar brawlers never impressed me. THIS IS TRUE: I was telling a lister just a few weeks ago about a outfit I was going to wear sometime to the fest; crow like...long black robe...makeup....and...a crow that I bought marked down after Halloween last year.(walking thur Wal-mart..I see a crow and think of Joni. I had to buy it.)push a button..this crow even crows.....I was going to harness it somehow on my shoulder. Her reaction was, well.. "they" will think you are weird". I quote: In February, Eric contributed to the new Joni Mitchell documentary for Delilah Films, in New York. He was interviewed in Oslo and performed 2 songs while also demonstrating guitar tunings. In 1965, he taught Joni her very first open tunings in Detroit. Just Out! Eric's latest release, Live At the Mudd Club has just been released on MP3 in late February. It was recorded at the famous New York underground music showcase, in 1982. The album features two songs of Eric's that were never recorded or released until now: "Pick Up The Pieces" and "Don't Stop." And be sure to check out "Blue River." It is the only version with Joni Mitchell singing harmonies that has ever been recorded live on stage. Ive not been a very attentive reader of the JMDL of late Im afraid, so these might have already been brought to everyones attention. But I thought they were worth reporting! Cheers to all, John (in Sydney). Yahoo!
