[Michael Paz Subject: [none] Last night I shedded raw tears. I am not used to that as a matter of fact. Even when my lovely mother died in year 2000 I could not find any tears in my eyes probably because she died at her (so-called) prime age. But after watching the November 11, 2001 terror attack at the World Trade Centre on the CNN documentary, I felt that was the highest level of man's inhumanity to man. The attack was unimaginable. It was like watching the firm called "TITANIC". I really really sympathize with the people of America. I'm sure they never baigained for such a heinous attack. Osama Bin Laden is still alife... and threatening. I wonder why and how a single arab could defeat the almighty Ben. That man must be made to stand in the dock of an American court...or else america should forget their world power tag. I always wondered if there weren't other links that we hold in common. . . maybe graveyards are for some reason a common joni link, maybe not. . . and who knows why? and (after hearing so many mentions of graveyards from several joni listers) I am getting the feeling that many seem to think or experience graveyards as not only a place to honor the dead, our ancestors or some archetypal influences. . . . . but also as a place that can be a truly beautiful place to hang out. In my teenage years we used to hang out at Mt. Hope Cemetery, in Rochester, NY. . . where (Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglas are burried). There are many many trees, two ponds, hills and beautiful things to see. And it was always a place I always felt comfortable and never fearful (of the dead or anything like this). makes me wonder. . ... Joni -> "3's a Crowd" -> Bruce Cockburn This connection goes back to the early days in Toronto. In a nutshell, Joni appeared on a television show called "Our Kind of Crowd" (along with Richard Pryor) in November of 1967. This show was hosted by a group called "3's a Crowd". At this time, the group was recording their first album, which included a cover of Bruce Cockburn's song "Bird Without Wings". In July of 1968 the band went through some personnel changes and asked Bruce to join the group. "3's a Crowd", with Bruce, went on the road as the opening act for The Turtles and Gary Puckett & The Union Gap, as well as a one-off engagement supporting Grand Funk Railroad. The group broke up in April of 1969. The group's history is quite a fascinating story about the early Toronto days with Neil Young, Steve Stills, and Joni references sprinkled here and there. It can be read in great detail starting here: http://www.jmdl.com/today/ttextsearchresults.cfm?searchstring=pryor Once there, click on the picture of Joni (or the links) for all the info. I had no idea Bruce Cockburn went that far back. I do remember seeing Richard Pryor a couple times on the Ed Sullivan show, obviously back when his act could appear on prime time. Just sneak into one with your sweetie one evening and see what I mean (but please don't get caught)! Since the major essence and attraction of Joni is romance, it does stand to reason that Joniphiles would likewise be drawn to the romance of graveyards. I figured that was too weird to ignore, so I added a page to the glossary section about the cafe and the caves. One of those individuals is scouring their attic for a promised picture of the actual cafe as taken in 1969. Check out the info here... there are some interesting tidbits: http://www.jmdl.com/glossary/mermaidcafe.cfm Les ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Jun 2002 01:05:09 -0700 From: Michael Paz Subject: Re: Jonifest 2002- It's not too late!
