I'm with you there, Relayer. As much as I was drawn to her truly original songwriting, the beauty of her voice was every bit as alluring. For me, Joni is the complete package - singer, lyricist, composer, guitarist. We are really fortunate to have her among us. Had not seen the James Taylor set up before, and one of the items is Joni's oil of him. Very nice! They've moved the names around in the enshrinement area, but joni's signature is still right smake next to Bill Monroe's while Neil Young's is still right next to Frank Zappa's. Appropriate, ain't it? Good to hear from you! If I remember correctly, Joni restored that first verse when she sang 'Moon at the Window' at the Gorge in 1998. I think she also sings it in PWWAM. I wondered why she was skipping it as well. In the concert from the Gene Autrey museum I'm almost certain she omitted it. >> Hey, yourself, Mark, Yeah, I'm slowly returning from e-mail limbo as I get my energy back. Still a bit wobbly, but too Irish and too pissy to give up[, as I tell anyone who'll listen... My memory isn't always reliable on these things, but i think you're right about Gene Autrey, but for some reason, I think she also skipped the first verse on PWWAM (I'll cvheck tonight) and also, she defintely skipped it on some Canadian TV show (a fun one with a woman host -- can't remember the name - -- it was circa '94, around the time of TI). Of course, the 1st verse was sort of a paraphrase of a line from Refuge of the Roads "Heart and humor and humlity...will lighten up your heavy load..." Then again, on the same album, she refers, in Amelia, to the Cactus Tree Motel. Has this self-reference game been played on this list in any guise, before? There must be more of it than these two examples...
