Anyway, one of the points of the story was that (like FTR) writing in BC & surrounded by its beauty inspired a beautiful melody which turned dark only when she saw the headline about the Magdalene Laundries in the news while grocery shopping. So I think there's some truth in the notion that this part of the world inspires 'truth & beauty' from Joni. I love this version of the story because she does these bird imitations that just crack me up! Yeah, she describes writing/her inspiration for ML.. too, in that MuchMusic interview. Her caretaker suggested that she try writing in the day light hours for a change, nightowl that she is. So she sat out on a rock, gulls were swooping, sun was shining.....and the rest, as they say, is history. Banquet..... obviously. What else? I'm so happy for you Jim. Now you get on the phone to Joni's manager and arrange a big party in your honor. You've done such a great job with JoniMitchell.com, and I just know that Wally B. is up there smiling smiling smiling. xoxo Jimmy ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 May 2002 20:16:36 -0700 From: Michael Paz Subject: Pat Benatar Hello Gang and Happy Memorial Day Weekend- I am feeling a little odd not having any festivals or any gigs to do this weekend, but that's a good thing. My body is finally feeling like mine again. After I dug the debris out of my car (a month of gigs) I realized I have two copies of a Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo CD called "Summer Vacation 2001" Live. This was handed out to the guests at the WE (Womens Entertainment) show that I did with Pat and Neil a few weeks ago. It is a two CD set and I am sure will be a nice collectors item for any Pat and Neil fans. I will mail out these two to the first two people who respond with their mailing addresses. Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. It was Ani's first tour here and she really shook up the folkie crowd, with many walking out disgusted (mostly at Ani's language onstage). Each time she cursed, more people would leave the tent, enabling delighted fans to get closer to the stage. I thought it was most amusing that Ani was happy to endure the difficulties of re-tuning her guitar, and could justify the agonies of doing so, based on having seen Joni go through the same agony with her own tunings. -Gerald ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 May 2002 22:41:40 EDT From: SCJoniGuy@aol.com Subject: Re: Sharon??? As kids do, they talked about their dreams...Sharon would talk of some day becoming a famous singer, while Joni would dream of the quiet life on the farm. As fate would have it, of course, the two ended up with careers in reverse, Sharon settling down on the farm with her family, like the song says. Although she did have a brief musical career, recording at least one record which contained a cover of Both Sides Now.
