(Lately I seem to be channelling > for > Mary Grace while drafting tag lines.......) Hey I saw that! And it reminds me of that children's classic: "Green Eggs and Taylor's Ham." Simply delightful. Here's the little Joni part: So I have this new office and the person I've replaced took down her travel poster and left behind a bare wall with a hook. I was worrying that I'd be the recipiant of my very own piece of corporate art so I brought in my framed posted of Joni's Van Gogh inspired self portrait. I don't know which is more enjoyable: leaning back in my chair and looking at that print or watching people look at the print. You can see that the orgins, (the Van Gogh part), revives some memory but something's not kicking in. One person went so far as to say: "You know, I always thought it was a guy that cut off his ear." So far I've only had one hit of true recognition and it was minor at that: "Isn't she a singer, too, who did that song "Send in the Clowns?" Close but no cigar. Lately I've been telling people that she's the 3 time Sumo wrestling champ from Iceland who sings. Then they immediately say: "Oh! Bjork!" Sheesh. MG - Lama, you can go back to channelling for me! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Apr 2002 06:59:53 -0700 From: Rick and Susan Subject: Re: A excite game - virus alert - do not open on 4/26/02 1:45 PM, les at les@jmdl.com wrote: > Hello,This is a excite game > This game is my first work. > You're the first player. > I wish you would enjoy it. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Apr 2002 10:30:59 -0500 From: "mack watson-bush" Subject: [none] Happiest of Birthday Greetings Mark. Joni performs "The Man I Love" and "Summertime". Stevie Wonder also does a couple of numbers. There is even a Gershwin-influenced work by Maurice Ravel. I have really enjoyed this CD. I got the idea to buy it from an interview with Joni I read on the website. I found the comments on Car On a Hill interesting. Just like I always thought until learning recently that Song to a Seagull was *supposed* to sound that way, I always thought Car was supposed to sound the way it does, too. The static-y, muffled backround noise sounds to me exactly like the ambient background sounds of traffic in L.A. The horn section sounds a little like people hitting their car horns. The static and the slight drop outs also remind me of the sounds of a car radio, especially when one is driving through the canyons and experiencing an intermittent signal. It adds to the sense of the lover being slightly removed and disconnected, down the hill, but traveling towards Joni as she sings. I'm so glad you got to see this. Meeting him a few years back was so fantastic - I'd love to have him at a party and listen to his stories all night! I just saw that he is having a free exhibit in Chicago this weekend at the Whitehall Hotel at 105 E. Delaware in Chicago from Friday 5/3 through Sunday 5/5. And thank you Bob, for sending me the latest Covers 29. It's got some wild spots and I am really enjoying it and will post a short review soon. Thanks also for the fantastic compilation of live FTR songs! What a treasure! Glad you and Victor enjoyed New York - I would have loved to have been there digging around for covers with you and Stephen and Rusty, too! ;-) Kakki NP: Down To You ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Apr 2002 20:48:28 -0600 From: Les Irvin Subject: Joni on Rudyard Kipling Even out here in Colorado we can glean the occasional interesting Joni quote. From the Denver Post in October of 1995, regarding a local book auction: - --- Singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell, for instance, sent in a copy of Rudyard Kipling's "Kim," noting that it had been read aloud to her by "the only great teacher" she ever had in school. "He loved this book and I do too," she wrote. "It instilled in me, at any early age, a thirst for adventure. It made me a better observer. It is spiritual and street wise. It changed my life. And it made a writer and a risk taker out of me." http://www.jmdl.com/articles/docs/951009dp.cfm - --- Mr. Kratzman, perhaps? Joni is so often making reference to him in many of her interviews. I do wish you could have seen her face last October when they surprised Joni with his presence at the end of the Hommage in Toronto. It was Kratzman who was chosen to give Joni her award that night. She was so happy to see him...and obviously overwhelmed. Not a dry eye in the house. It was so special. The two of them sat together and had a good old talk on stage, like old friends, and Joni was just beaming. I am sure there are photos of the two of them together at the event. thanks for the great quote and for doing such a fine job in keeping us informed. We appreciate your efforts so very much Les. MagsNcutieboi ;-) in none other than E.S.C. okay so I am getting used to saying that, good practice ===== You open my heart, you do. Yes you do. - JM Yahoo! That was the only part of the sentence that I read. Joni's C&S also gets a plug in the letters from readers. Always respected Dunst's work, and like her more now!
