Paul Simon, James Taylor, and Joni were the main attractions. More info: http://www.jmdl.com/articles/docs/720429nyt.cfm 1991: [Today] music channel VH-1 aired a "VH-1 to 1" special called "NIGHT RIDE HOME" that was a full half hour of interview, video bits, and teasingly short peeks of Joni playing the instrumental part of "Cherokee Louise." The special also featured a display of quite a few of her paintings from various eras, and many shots of the double exposure photographs that she and Klein had taken in Canada in 1990. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Apr 2002 08:00:04 EDT From: Gertus@aol.com Subject: "About a Boy" I haven't actually seen the film yet but have been avidly reading the reviews which are generally favourable. Sadly though, from what I can glean, the Joni content has been replaced by......The Carpenters! Not being a Carpenters fan, I find this depressing. I had better reserve judgement until I've seen the film but until then I can only surmise that they needed someone with a "cheesier" image than Joni's. (I was worried until Les cleared >this up!) YOU were worried? How do you think I felt when I saw something posted that I didn't write? Even worse, I was out late drinking tequila and singing bad songs at a karaoke bar (the only Joni title was Help Me). I thought that I might have written the poorly phrased, ill conceived post. Yikes. Nothing worse than those late-night drunken messages. Search the archives for posts last Labor Day if you need any examples. Thanks for the quick post Les. I would have been going crazy today trying to figure out what I was thinking when I wrote that. So my next question, should I warn those on my contact list about this virus? Do you think I have inadvertantly spread it elsewhere or was I just a random name that was selected? Sue n.p. Under special features, the following is listed for Joni on film: Renaldo and Clara 1978 (plays herself) Love 1982 (plays Paula) What's the story with these two? I've never heard of them. Anyone see them and can share? Thanks, Kurt ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Apr 2002 20:08:19 -0400 From: "Blair Fraipont" Subject: Re: how does joni choose her band mates? I think it may be a different album or possibly I think she had worked with all of the members of Miles' second classic Quartet and those would be, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Tony WIlliams and Ron Carter. I think the liner notes to the Mingus album she mentions working with Mr. Williams and Mr. Carter in rehearsals. If she did work with all of the Kind of Blue musicians, she would have worked with John Coltrane (who died in 1967), Bill Evans, and others that have left my mind for the time being. I WISH she had worked with Coltrane.. That would have been OTHERWORLDLY!! SO, unfortunately, I think she worked with the former, second classic quartet members. She has said several times that the sound on "Nefertitti" and title track of the same name was a sound she tried to emulate with some of her guitar work on Hejira in particular. That is all from here. Blair, NOW 22 :) If I recall, she once said that >she has worked with everyone who was on "Kind Of Blue" >in particular. Good question, but could we please get >back to gay marriage? > _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Apr 2002 01:13:10 +0100 From: "William" Subject: Now then La - Aaah, Judy Collins.
