Her final outing with Geffen, Mitchell enters into a dispute with the label which has allegedly placed a lien on her publishing royalties in an effort to recoup its investment in her recordings, a tactic which the company subsequently drops. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Apr 2002 03:49:02 -0400 From: les@jmdl.com Subject: Today's Articles: April 27 On April 27 the following items were published: 1968: "The Joni Mitchell Success Story" - Saskatoon StarPhoenix (Biography) http://www.jmdl.com/articles/docs/680427ssp.cfm 1974: "From Folk Waif to Rock & Roll Lady" - Sounds (Review - Concert, with photographs) http://www.jmdl.com/articles/docs/740427s.cfm 1974: "The Divine Miss M" - Melody Maker (Review - Concert, with photographs) http://www.jmdl.com/articles/docs/740427mm.cfm - -------- Can you type? http://www.jmdl.com/typing/ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Apr 2002 03:59:49 EDT From: FredNow@aol.com Subject: Re: Introduction + In a message dated 4/26/02 8:36:01 PM, mark.travis@gte.net writes: >>Although not 30 years her junior, the two >> exceptions to this are Shawn Colvin and Jonatha Brooke; their best work is >> better than most of post-Mingus Joni, and stands up to her own best. >>Need I qualify this as just my opinion? >> >> -Fred > >I would say so, yes. >Mark E in Seattle What I meant was that it should be clear that this is just my opinion. - -Fred ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Apr 2002 04:32:33 EDT From: FredNow@aol.com Subject: Re: Introduction + "Kate Bennett" writes: >>>>Although not 30 years her junior, the two >exceptions to this are Shawn Colvin and Jonatha Brooke; their best work >is better than most of post-Mingus Joni, and stands up to her own best. I know that Catherine has done the wonderful "knitting" story from PWWAM too. Bob, in NYC!! And for the path to the article on the picture! It didn't mention what she was carrying (or wearing),but you were right! It was a very interesting read. Although she wasn't pregnant at the time, those clothes look very oversized. I've kinda pictured her as the poor, starving artist type in those early days when she "was working cheap". You know, not being able to buy clothes, and wearing the few things you had over and over, and saving your money for guitar strings and important stuff, lol. Hope you are all having fun at your mini "fest" this weekend!! Still, I grow weary of the disclaimers, so I made up one of my own. I think that Joni's vocals are mixed too softly, especially on the first verse. Particularly coming off the heels of Don't Interupt...where her vocals are right up front and the percussive nature of the instruments makes the sound jump out of the speaker. Now, does anyone notice a static noise in Car On a Hill during the doppler-effect break in the middle of the song. I've listened on many different systems, and I always seem to pick up an overload at one point that turns to static. He's pale, prone to illness and "otherworldly" (sigh). He spends his nights at the mixing board agonizing over which solo to use while his friends fight over who gets the first fuck. He reconciles himself to humping dim groupies yet confesses that Joni Mitchell is his dream girl, only problem being he's too shy to talk to her.
