It is in reference to the high school she attended after "desegregation". " One of the benefits of going to that school was the view it allowed me inside of another world. That view, among other things, introduced me to different music...I got the part of Dorothy in the high school musical of The Wizard of Oz. That was the beginning of reaching out to these people and being able to talk to them. Music was the way we came together. We talked about music...We traded albums at school. I remember hearing James Taylor and then really getting into Joni Mitchell..." Cassandra's part in the TNT tribute was one of the highlights of the show, I thought. I am not familiar with her work, though, from your description, I am definitely intrigued. ( ie. van morrison's " tupelo honey," U2's " love is blindness," neil young's " harvest," robbie robertson's " the weight," bob dylan's " shelter from the storm," the old monkees song " last train to clarksville " by boyce and hart - she made that into quite the stunner, and many more...sorry i got carried away ! ) anyway i would love to hear a bit of a quote from the new " queen of jazz " on joni's influence, i would also love to hear cassandra tackle some more of joni's music !!! thanks for the great post jenny... wanting more joni, warren keith p.s. i trust you caught cassandra on the TNT tribute to our joan ! The audience was having a great time dancing and singing along. :-)) I especially enjoyed the segment where Joni and Toller Cranston are skating together!! I had no idea that Toller was on the video .. what a wonderful surprise for this long time Toller fan. He remains one of my favourite in the realm of Canadian ice skaters. I remember the noise he made in the press as well as with the judges because he dared to push the creative envelope to the extremes. Besides, he's damned good! A fine skater, interpreter and dancer on ice. I am reminded of the day after the Joni Tribute in Toronto when we tried to find Toller at his gallery on Queen Street, but to no avail. Oh well Toller, perhaps next time. I'd sure love to hear your Joni stories. Back to the video, I thought of our very own Bob M. when Joni sang Amelia. In my mind, that will remain Bob's song. (Muller, you did such a beautiful rendition of Amelia at the Fest two years ago...makes me wonder what you have in store for us this year!?!?!?!) Joni was fantastic throughout...so good to see her energy and the ease with which she performs. Yes, I can well imagine the work that goes into it, performance is never 'easy' and she can make it look as if it is. I dont know how long the copy is...sorry. Anyone on the list know anything about different versions of Shadows and Light? Bree, Im not sure how to advise, I just know that Toller is wonderful and I would hate to miss out on that segment. I loved what Joni is wearing. And speaking of Pat, did you see the expression on his face when he does his solo?? incredible. He becomes one with that guitar of his. can anyone tell me more about that guitar? thanks for writing Mags, who believes in miracles and gives thanks the INS goddess for good news received today and who truly believes that there is nothing whatsoever haggard about our Joni. ;-) > > > > > _________________________________________________________________ > Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com > ===== You open my heart, you do.
