I'm an Italian lurker on the Joni-only Digest. I’m sorry for the poor Joni content yet I would like this message to be overspread... About ten days ago I sent (off-list) a mail to Susan McNamara at trying to attach a tuning table (that’s my Joni content) I elaborated concerning our lady of the tunings... asking her kind and authoritative assistance for this table to be shared and also in view of the fact that it surely has to be integrated and amended... Yet, I’m afraid I should have better "announced myself" via the jmdl... in order to avoid possible deletion of my message... or maybe she merely did not have the time to reply... Sorry for having caused any possible trouble to Susan and for having bored you with my stories... I would be glad to forward the table to anyone of us who does not own the Roland VG-8 wizardry... please write me off-list always citing "JM tuning table" as a subject, in order to avoid precautionary deletions... Hoping this little contribution of mine will be of some help to somebody... How to thank you all out there for your care and passion? Let us dedicate, not only in these days, our deepest and most heartfelt thoughts to Mr. Wally Breese!!!!!!!! Envy those ones who knew him! What a beautiful person he must have been! I’m going to Berlin next week (24 to 31). Is there any "Berliner" among us? A big hug! Hi folks, I usually read the "articles that appeared this day in history" or "articles that have just been added to our archive" thingies that begin most of the digests, at least when my web cruiser isn't sputtering or broken, and so I just read Stephen Holden's (Rolling Stone) review of HoSL from 1976. http://www.jmdl.com/articles/docs/760115rs.cfm Wow. For the first 2/3 of the article, I thought, "Gosh, this guy really gets it, he really listened to the album and thought about the words, he caught the subtle ambiguities and ambivalence displayed in the lyrics, etc." But how on earth did he come to the conclusion that the melodies were boring, minimal, nonexistent, unimaginative, etc.? Anybody else feel that way? I didn't at the time, and I don't now, but maybe someone can explain why he had that reaction, or maybe only he can. At least his prediction that Joni should move further into the jazz world came out true. warm greetings to all, walt, still struggling to type, on new medication for the neuropathy (pray for me that it works, especially now that I have a piano at my disposal!) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Jan 2002 15:42:25 EST From: SAVtheWAVE@aol.com Subject: Miles of Aisles Hi all. Out of lurkdom here and making an inquiry as to whether or not there is a video tape of Miles of Aisles and if so, how do I go about getting one from the list. I have a couple of new co-workers that are now being subjected to Joni at work, thanks to my control of the CD player and it came up today in conversation as to how awesome it would be to see that on video. Any and all help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. As far as I know, there's not any MOA video or footage. The closest thing I know of is some video of her & the LA Express onstage at the Victoria Theatre in London, April '74. They do 4 or 5 songs, best I can recall. The footage is a part of the video that also contains her 1970 BBC special "Pink Dress" concert(with emphasis on "special") and the 1988 Whistle Test Extra. Great to hear from you - don't be a stranger! I didn't think that I had heard of one, but it was worth asking on the JMDL as we all know, it's all there if there is anything to know about our lady. Thanks again. They must be original. 2) It should be kept simple for what I will be using it for. (Top secret!) 3) It should include the words Northeast Back to the Garden Jonifest 2002. Not neccessarily in that order. 4) Prize: My undying gratitude, the ENORMOUS prestige of having your logo used for (TOP SECRET!!) things, and the rights to borrow Mr. Paz's slinky halter top and Pink Glitter high heels for one night on the town. I will also try to think of some wonderful prize as well if I can. Thanks!! Those were the daze. Does anyone know if/who Joni is impersonating on the cover of DJRD? The moustachioed chap is holding (behind the right hand) what seems to be a medal - Olympicesque. Just wondering if there was any significance in this. And while we're on the subject - the boy on the right? I stole that from ... you know. You're darn right. CD covers seem to still be following the LP model but in a small format and it just doesn't work - you can't see a thing, and just try reading the lyrics when you're middle-aged, horribly near-sighted and now needing bifocals and just finding out you're starting to develop a cataract. And it's on my "good" eye too, the left one which is still horribly bad, but not nearly as bad as the right. Irony strikes again. >Those > were the daze. Does anyone know if/who Joni is > impersonating on the cover of > DJRD? I think it's a character she created called Art Nouveau (ha ha). >And while we're on the subject - the boy on > the right? Good question. I asked that once before but never got an answer - let's hope you have better luck than I! I examined that picture very carefully to try to find out if maybe it was Joni in some other disguise, but I just couldn't see it (given that every other person on the cover is Joni, I figured maybe the boy was too, but apparently not.) ______________________________________________________________________ Web-hosting solutions for home and business! http://website.yahoo.ca ------------------------------ End of onlyJMDL Digest V2002 #18 ******************************** ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here: mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:onlyjoni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe ------- Siquomb, isn't she?
