The Addicted to Noise website reported: "Carly Simon, glaring at the rather tipsy Hynde, finally got fed up and suggested that Hynde sit down, and if you'll excuse the expression, "shut up." Even though we have never met, you've looked into my eyes three or four times from street and stage. You waved and smiled after I yelled "Joni rocks"... You posed so beautifully for me and my camera in Chicago between songs- just for me, with a smile. Thank you for those little moments which touched me so... You know, I don't even know what I'd say to you if we did meet. 'Thank you', or 'I worship the chord structure that you walk upon', 'you are a goddess', 'you rock'... There are no words, really. Maybe I'll just smile and start singing one of your songs and continue to walk by, knowing that we did touch several times, and that's all we needed to do in real time. Maybe, somehow, some way, you know how much you have touched, moved, stimulated, inpired me as an artist and a human being... so maybe it does come down to two words... Thank you... Thanks for all the music and poetry and art. Many more of all of the above. Dear fellow list members, Harking back to discussion of the terms at some point in grade school, both "spark" and "spoon" were colloquialisms equivalent to the more formal "court," "courting" and "courtship." A swain would wait on the porch for his innamorata and, to pass the time, whittle wooden spoons. They would then visit on the porch; meanwhile, the young lady's father would be staying up late and, when throwing another log on the fire, sparks would rise up the chimney. And many more. Please keep creating more beauty as we can never have enough of that, especially yours. Hello ALL!!!! I'm baaaaaaaaaack! My head still hurts, but my heart is better. It has been such a long hiatus and I missed you. I managed to skim the digests over this past week or so and try to get up to speed, but it was just too overwhelming. I would like to wish a belated Happy Birthday to everyone that had one between the time I left and today. Also thanks to everyone who has been checking with me via IM's, private emails, and obscene phone calls. My trip to Paris/Monte Carlo was alot of fun. It was a little scary leaving the kids behind with friends and galavanting off to Europe in these troubled times. The whole security thing is a joke. One minute they want to do a cavity search and the next you could smuggle an armoured vehicle. We saw varying degrees of security throughout the trip. We took a train from Nice to Paris and back and were never even asked for our train tickets. Walked right thru the gate to the trains, but had to turn our undies inside out to check the bags in storage lockers at the Nice Train Depot. I was thinking about you guys in Toronto and actually met a very nice couple from there in Monte Carlo and I raised my glass to you. Thanks to all who forwarded their reviews of that experience to me private. I also met some really wild people from Nova Scotia and a wild couple from Kentucky, that we partyed with in Monte Carlo. I performed at the lovely Monte Carlo Grand Hotel (yes the one you see in the Grand Prix) On the final night at the gala farewell dinner in the grand ballroom I accompanied a young lady from Alaska on her version of Me and Bobby McGee, and was the lead singer on Honky Tonk Women, Jumping Jack Flash, and I Saw Her Standing There. On Bobby McGee I played guitar using the local acts guitar and GET THIS VG-88. The guy asked me if I had ever seen one. I didn't have enough french going to let him know that I practically invented the damn thing.LOL! I also played piano almost every night we were in Monaco in the piano bar with a crowd of people we made friends with (yes that's right the alkees). We were pickled the whole time we were there. I have got tons of digital fotos that I am gonna try and post on the foto site as soon as Freda converts them down to a reasonable size for viewing online. Paris was beautiful as usual, but I felt that whole Parisian thing that I have heard so many people talk about, but did not feel the first time I was there. Some of those damn people can be really fecking rude. I won't bore you with the details. Zachary Richard recommended that I go to a Sushi bar near L'Opera called Isse'. He said it was the best sushi he has ever eaten. It was truly amazing and in the middle of Paris. The people were really nice to us and we had a wonderful evening there. It seems like everyone that we met there from somewhere else (but live in Paris) were very warm and hospitable, but the Parisians.....agh!!!!! I went by the place in the Rue de Sommard where I met Julie (from New York) that introduced me to the music of Joni Mitchell. I spent 3 glorius weeks there at the Hotel Wetter (no long gone), but I managed to snap a few pics of the balcony and of the front stoop, where I first hear her play Marcie and Michael From Mountains. Freda was NOT too amused during this little side trip, but I knew she would get over it. We walked the streets of the Latin Quarter where Julie and I use to play and sing real good (for money to get her a plane ticket and a new passport that she had lost, back to the US) and it brought back so many warm memories. Ten days in France and Monaco was just NOT enough, but we did have some great adventures and I guess I better quit now cause this is getting long and I am starting to babble. I hope everyone is doing well and that the times don't have you in it's evil clutches. I continue to pray for better times for us all and that peace will soon reign on this earth. Till then I wish you all strength and love and healing. From the JMDL to WFUV's featuring the Joni - to ... the Beverly Hillbillies - yes that's right. Only moments ago an episode aired that clearly was a secret message honoring Joan. I do believe there is a Joniphile at TV Land. The episode opens with Granny & Ellie May discussing a beau coming to "Court" Ellie May. Granny says "First he's coming to court ya - then to spark ya."" Ellie asks, "What does that mean?" And Granny questions Ellie, "You mean you don't know what court ya and spark ya means?" Oh! I just had another idea. What if Joni got her inspiration from watching the Beverly Hillbillies - please help me I'm feeling faint! Happy Birthday Joni - ya know California is the place you oughta be! Peace Susan P. S. Tricky Question, Wally, But you know most people will probably never allow their kids to hear or say the words on Nathan's list (that's what x-rated is, right? things allowed only for grownups?). Some adults will find some words on the list not so easy to say or hear or read even for themselves. I've got no problem with these words and i guess i wrote "x-rated words" just so our friends on the board will know what they're about to read. Maybe there are no x-rated words in the world at all (though the F word is, and some nasty-nasty curses are too) so the x-thing's more about the vivid scene or action that pops to one's mind when reading Nathan's words that could be somewhat x-rated. Don't know. I must say that he opens his page with a sweet introdution and a friendly voice, but when the word Pedophilia is mentioned - it's realy sick and that's where he lost my interest so i don't think he's such a nice person as he claims to be. While all the other sex-terms in his list are about things that women and men do if and when they want to do them - I never heard of a child who wanted to take part in someone else's pedophila. Pedophilia is raping a child. It's killing a child. p.s. Only a Joni fan could've nicknamed himself "Nathan la Franeer". Maybe he's a JMDL member? Thanks, Wally. The Ten Commandments According to Joni: 1. Thou shalt have no other gods before Joni. 2. Thou shalt not take the name of Joni thy God in vain - the "perm" look of the 80's was not her best, but she's OK now. 3. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image - illegal copies of Joni's work will spontaneously combust, should they be offered for profit. 4. Remember November 7th, and keep it holy. 5. Honor Bill and Myrtle. 6. Thou shalt not kill other's bids on ebay, even if they are bidding against you for an ultra-rare cover of "The Wolf Who Lives In Lindsay" recorded by an isolated tribe of Amazonian Indians. 7. Thou shalt not commit adultery, and idolise any other artist above Joni. 8. Thou shalt not steal, even if it's the only copy of Hejira for 50 miles, and you have no money in your pocket. 9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour - they're allowed to listen to Britany Spears if they want to (they're insane, but that's their problem). 10.Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's Joni - even if they do have the master tapes of For The Roses hidden in their basement.
