The song is recognizable, but I cannot remember who's doing it...to the average ear, I SUPPOSE it COULD sound like early Joni, though I think it's kind of a cheesy tune! I just wanted to see if anyone else out there has been enjoying Cree Summer's 1999 CD "Street Faerie". Cree is Lisa Bonet's sister and has had a decent career on television and as a voice-over artist in animated TV nad movies. "Street Faerie" was/is her first CD and I've been listening to it for 2 years now and haven't come close to tiring of it. Produced by Lenny Kravitz (who's all over the CD, by the way), the album has both quietly pretty moments as well as some edgier material...versatile. I was moved to mention the disc to this list when I recently read that Cree grew up on an Indian reservation in Saskatchewan!!! Song samples are available at the usual on-line sources. Please visit = the DOJ Justice for Kids and Youth website for information on what you = can do!=20 (by Lambert-Potter, sung by Coven) Listen, children, to a story That was written long ago, 'Bout a kingdom on a mountain And the valley-folk below. On the mountain was a treasure Buried deep beneath the stone, And the valley-people swore They'd have it for their very own. Go ahead and hate your neighbor, Go ahead and cheat a friend. Do it in the name of Heaven, You can justify it in the end. There won't be any trumpets blowing Come the judgement day, On the bloody morning after.... One tin soldier rides away. So the people of the valley Sent a message up the hill, Asking for the buried treasure, Tons of gold for which they'd kill. Came an answer from the kingdom, "With our brothers we will share All the secrets of our mountain, All the riches buried there." Go ahead and hate your neighbor, Go ahead and cheat a friend. Do it in the name of Heaven, You can justify it in the end. There won't be any trumpets blowing Come the judgement day, On the bloody morning after.... One tin soldier rides away. Now the valley cried with anger, "Mount your horses! Draw your sword!" And they killed the mountain-people, So they won their just reward. Now they stood beside the treasure, On the mountain, dark and red. Turned the stone and looked beneath it... "Peace on Earth" was all it said. Go ahead and hate your neighbor, Go ahead and cheat a friend. Do it in the name of Heaven, You can justify it in the end. There won't be any trumpets blowing Come the judgement day, On the bloody morning after.... One tin soldier rides away. Go ahead and hate your neighbor, Go ahead and cheat a friend. Do it in the name of Heaven, You can justify it in the end. There won't be any trumpets blowing Come the judgement day, On the bloody morning after.... One tin soldier rides away. They later did an album which had a black mass on the b side and a bunch of satanic reference songs on the other side. Probably came out in 1970 or so. Kind of a female led Black Sabbath with pretty cheesy songs and songwriting as well as playing. Not a recommended album and long out of print. One Tin Soldier was quite a departure.
