He sounds like a depressive from the description, but sometimes that makes for interesting music. I think Weezer is a "they" not a "he". And, yes, I've heard them, thanks to my 17 yr old son. Pretty good stuff. Ah, those young'ns keep me hip. Thanks to whoever posted the amazon in the uk website! Whatever I paid for it - who knows, it was in pounds and Euros - it was worth it for the dust cover alone! I might have it framed! A startling (in the good, artistic sense) picture of Joni, stark in black and purple and the vaguest of colors, on a black background - and on the back over, I cannot describe it, almost like it would work on an Anne Rice cover, very atmospheric. I obviously not yet read the book - skimmed it and it sure looks interesting but who knows - the inside pictures (too few of those) are all quite good, very unusual, not standard fare, I hadn't seen any of them before except the TTT cover and the way they present it with the van Gogh adds to appreciation of the TTT cover. There is a picture of Joni in 1990 with a self-portrait from a GAP ad - that was news to me! Anyone remember Joni in GAP ads? I need to fall into this book, gotta go - I will say that it seems to have a lot of quotes and ends with the Grammies for BSN and a nice pic of the artists on stage at the TNT tribute - I have read a page here and there to get a feel for it and while I can't yet grasp or vouch for the quality of the book, it certainly seems to be inclusive of much of her life - talks about the Refugee of the Roads tour and how the childhood polio made that tough for her, that is an example that the book does not appear to skim the surface. Well, let me get reading... Though, it's a good question to ask and to raise. I will sort of rise to the defense of Joni. . . I was thinking for one, that we don't really know how joni contributes to the greater good politically... (perhaps our joni historians could tell us about some of her "benefit"concerts). . I mean, there's a lot we don't know about one's personal life and their personal/political life. For example, many people that know you may not know what causes you contribute to, etc. My second point is that Joni has given us significant political contributions in her music, her lyrics. .. She really takes a stand. She takes a stand in a loud voice. She touches and inspires all of us and more. If all of the people on the jmdl took a stand in their every day life the way joni does in her music we would really have something going on. "Can I walk beside you? . . ." I don't know, maybe jmdlers do take a stand. I'd like to think so. I guess one thing Joni represents for me is a person who takes a stand. She speaks her mind. She speaks her mind when it would be far easier to stick with middle of the road. Of course that's not her (the middle). She speaks truths to a world that often doesn't want the truth. This takes courage. This courage inspires me and gives me strength when I am but one lonely voice. The way I see it . .. if we all take a stand the way Joni did/does then we've got something going on. "And I feel to be a cog in something turning......" I'm always looking for courage. with Love marianne _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Oct 2001 18:15:56 EDT From: RoseMJoy@aol.com Subject: Re: It arrived! I sure wish I could find that Italian photographer from Milan who worked on this ad campaign. I met him at the BSN concert in NYC. I was the JM.Com photographer that night. He had approached me to ask me where the photographers were supposed to be situated that night. He told me his name and showed me some of his work, which included some of those shots taken. Damn if I remembered in all the excitement. I wish I would have gotten his card or something....He said he was a friend of Joni's and that was how he had a photo pass. He also mentioned that he had an exhibit in the city and that's what brought him to NY. If anyone has a clue as to who this photographer might be, I'd appreciate it. I ordered my copy of Karen's book from the amazon UK site as well. There is a link to it on the JM.com site. I can hardly wait until it arrives.
