[johnirving ] RE: Chat with Joni today - Holy Feck! [Susan Guzzi Subject: Life goes on. Kakki, What a wonderful, delightful, fantastic, dream-like experience!!!! I so envy you... and I've already met her. And here I was dreaming that somehow, somehow Kerry and Hellen would be the lucky ones to have the chance to meet her. We are all happy for you two. I smiled tonight in a way I haven't smiled in a long, long time. Someone please tell Michael and Vince what they are missing. (Mikes is only on list vacation, btw... he'll be back.) I imagine we should all feel hopeful and optimistic that Joni will not abandon her gift of music and poetry!!!! I won't ask god for a favor on this one, because if I had a "freebie" it would go to all the suffering people in this world. And to those who died Sept. 11. Still, our lives would be enriched by Joni's creativity in such a special, unique way. I think Bob M's crystal ball was in fine form when he said the Christmas thingie would not happen. -Somehow, cheery song isn't what I see coming from Joni's pen. Rather, something with the deep heart of Blue and the reflective freshness of Passion play. Speaking of insider Joni material... I forget the name of the orchestra member who worked on BSN and attended the Saskatoon opening, but does anyone know if he's been asked to work on the new project??? It crossed my mind, that we could ask him to write something for the list from time to time about the recording sessions. Heck, I'd even offer to pay the guy something just to be in the know. We've never been lucky enough to have inside scoop on the development of a Joni project as it was being created. Maybe this could be a first? Anyway, just dreaming. -I will sleep very well tonight. Thanks Kakki. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 30 Sep 2001 21:30:21 -0700 (PDT) From: Susan Guzzi Subject: RE: Chat with Joni today - Holy Feck! AaaaaaaaaaaaaaaHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!Okay now that I've got that scream out of my system. Can you imagine the look of horror on Joni's face if I wailed like that before her. Kakki & Steve, I must admit I am a "Little Green" but I am glad that you had your little "Conversation" with MS.M. I am just catching up late in the day with all of the day's posts and thanks to all who asked all the questions I wanted to ask. I am so excited, I don't think I could have typed all those out. I guess this is fair warning for all of us to prepare a script of how we would handle it, if and when we meet her. You never know some day somewhere some time - - when you least expect it .... Actually having met a few (none so high as she) artists, I have handled it. Not as cool and calm as Kakki and Stephen but I don't believe I have made a fool out of myself. Usually the encounters have been short and typical, except for my cocktail many years ago with a little girl named Ricki Lee. But I would still trade that for a meeting with Joni. I guess the only thing I might have asked her is ... what might she have planned for August 2002 ... say the 23rd - 25th. It sounds like you guys handled it very smooth. But as details come up or conversation you're comfortable relaying to us please do. And ... feel free to embellish, after all it's like a fairy tale anyway! LOL! Lucky you 2! Thank you for letting us get to know her as well. I did not know that you and Stephen were painters. Fantastic! Your post made me feel like I was there with you! Thanks again. I think that in order to make it in this business, you have to have the support of other musicians who are not afraid to believe in you. You seem to have that, but as you said, the opportunities for a singer songwriter such as yourself are not available in your country. My question to you (and you can reply off list if you like) is about the Joni covers. Is this your ultimate goal as an artist, or just one of them? Do you have a vision for your own material? I feel to have a vision for your own material is also important. The next step is to start creating that vision on a CD or demo CD if you haven't already. The third and final step is that you may have to go where the opportunities for what you are trying to do lie. In fact, I know you will have to go where the opportunities lie. You seem like you are hungry to fulfill that need inside to be a singer/songwriter. I understand that need completely and I'm telling you that it will not go away. I tried to bury my need for almost twenty years and I am here to tell you that it can't be done without damage to the psyche and soul. I wish you all the best and I am here for you off list if you need me.
